Replacing a .223 Mini-14 With a Bolt Action

Remington 700's offer the best, fully-adjustable factory trigger of any of the rifles mentioned. Triggers do make a difference! You won't do much long-range varmint hunting with that $329 ADL from Wal-Mart, however. Better spend a couple hundred more dollars and get the VS or VLS.

1/4" from a match AR from the bench is completely within reason. I have a 16" barrel Bushmaster Shorty, on which I have free-floated the barrel and installed a JP trigger/hammer combo. I've shot a bunch of 1/2" groups, using my handloads and Ballistic Tips, V-Maxes, or Bergers.

Walter, agree with you on Remington triggers, but aren't the action and trigger the same across the ADL, BDL, and Vxx models? All the same basic 700 action/trigger, but with different stocks, magazine configuration (closed, hinged floor plate, detachable, etc.), barrel profiles, and finishes? As I understand it, the differences between an ADL and the VLS are in the stock, magazine, and barrel, not in the trigger or the action . . .

So buy a VLS if you want a heavy barrel and beavertail forend. Buy an ADL if you don't mind a closed magazine and a light barrel.

I have shot a Savage 110 With a heavy barrel, it will shoot 1/4" at 100 yards out of the box, using a good 36x scope.

I'll match my Savage model 12FV .223 with anyone on the block. AND - it's a fair amount less expensive up front. Spend the difference on optics and/or ammo.
