Remington 700 ADL Varmint Vs Ruger American

Sorry Snyper but this statement makes me laugh. Professional snipers usually use what they're issued. Just because the M700 is used it isn't the only one out there being used by our Military in a sniper role.
I never said they used nothing but Remingtons, but I've never heard of any using Rugers of any type

It was a multiple choice question with only two choices, Ruger or Remington.

I also didn't say "military"

All the police snipers I know shoot heavy barreled Remington 700's, mostly in 308, but a few in 223, since their shots tend to be much closer range than military shooters

Snyper I am not seeing the 700 as being dominant in L.E. "marksman observer" use. "Sniper" is now an evil word in Law Enforcement. You see a lot of FN rifles in use now. Some CZ, a considerable number of Savages, there are a lot of older 70 Winchesters in use. I have seen one 77 Ruger. There are a lot of 700 in service, but they are definitely not the only game in town.

Maybe so, but the reason is they are very cheap in comparison to the others mentioned with the exception of Savage. Some of the Savage models are much more expensive than the Remingtons.

I wouldn't be considering law enforcement preference as a factor for a long range rifle anyway. How often does law enforcement actually use their rifles over 200 yards? 100 even? Not much

Military, law enforcement, any government agency that buys guns in bulk quantities, submits a list of specifications that they need for a gun to meet. Companies submit a gun that meets those specs with a bid of X number of units for X amount of dollars. The government agency tests and evaluates each company's gun, and the majority of the time the lowest bid gets the contract. Of course smaller agencies and special operations processes may vary, but for the most part, the government wants the best thing they can get for the least money. Just because something is mil-spec or "like the military/LE uses" doesn't always mean it's the best, but it usually means it's a good value.
