Remington 1858 vs Colt 1860 Army

In a contest between the 1858 Remington New Army and 1860 Colt Army I'd have to say I'd pick the Ruger Old Army or the Rogers and Spencer.

Just is case you were interested.

Mrappe,

I have two 1858s from ASM. One is steel and one is brass. I like them both. Don't seem to be a nickel's worth of difference between the steel frame pistol at nearly thirty years of age and a brand new Pietta.

Tnx,

I like them both but I like the Colt's a little better. Gonna be Coltless for awhile tho, recently had 15 of my handguns stolen including ALL of my bp revolvers.
Sorry to hear that Hawg. I wouldn't mind personally throttling the perp.

Hawg - did you record the serial numbers and can you publish them?

I have some of the numbers but not all. The thief was my son in law. I filled out a police report and gave them pics and serial numbers. The serial numbers are now in the national data base and if one goes thru a licensed dealer anywhere in the country it'll show up. I'm hoping he still has them and I'll get them back.

GRRRRR there is no more worse person than a theif cept maybe a Theif that happens to be a family member.

Tell ya, if any of my family stole anything from me thay'd be wishing the law got to them before me, I hope that you get your guns back my friend & that he gets so much time that sun light would be a new experience to him when he got out...

I'm new to BP revolvers. This is the order I went so far:

1. ROA 7 1/2" SS adjustable sights
2. ROA 7 1/2" SS fixed sights
3. Uberti 8" 1858

Next purchase will probably be a Uberti Colt style. Either an 1851 Navy or a 1862 Pocket Police.

Base on the question from the OP it looks like the 1858 would get the nod first from me.

I guess my quesetion is why do want to get another one of the two?

Do you want a matching set for CAS? If so get the one that you can shoot better with the off hand.

If you are just looking for a third gun, think outside your confort zone. Dragoons/Walkers are a pleasant change in pace. The Ruger Old Army is a different beast that can be loads of fun. If you are up for small challenge there are the pocket pistols from both colt and remmie...

That's the reason. i wouldn't mind getting one of everything but for CAS shooting a matched pair would be more preferable.

Cripes, Hawg, you seem to be taking that much better than I would.

I've been looking at an 1860 Colt (2nd gen) with a fluted barrel on gun broker. I...must...not...bid on...revolver

No, I'm not taking it well at all. Just biding my time hoping the law catches him before I do.:D

I've got a couple of buddies on another forum that are giving me a couple of Remingtons. Just recieved a .36 brass framed Remington Navy with a custom holster and cleaning kit and another bud is sending me a NIB CCH Remington 44.

Dang Hawg I am sorry to hear that man. That's some hard luck to take... Welp you done it the right way and i commend you on that. You'll probly get um back from the Son in Law.

You'll probly get um back from the Son in Law.

I doubt it. He prolly took them out of spite but then got scared and sold them to his druggie friends. If he gets caught with a firearm period he does time. I'm hoping one of the ones he sold them to hocks one and they turn over on him. If they do he'll do some serious time.

I think we just need ta go get him and take him out in the woods. I just know that he'd tell me and Limey the truth. He wouldnt give ya any grandchildren after that, but he'd tell the truth.....
