have you seen one of these? It is a bolt action single shot. I think it was made think in the 60's. I will try to post some pictures if I can.

Here's mine in 7mmBR with a custom stock. My standard is a 120 grainer at 2,555 fps MV. Very flat shooting iron! :D:D

I also have the original fleece lined vinyl zipper case and original rear sight for it too.

Nice Pistol.... extremely accurate

I bought mine in the early 80's in a gun shop on one of islands near Charleston SC. They were closing shop and I had cash and we traded. I took it to my gunsmith and he worked on the trigger and we added epoxy and lead shot to the base to add weight to it. Mounted a Burris high power pistol scope on it. Extremely accurate.... Think my load was with Remington 50 grain PSP using IMR4198.....??? 18.? grains... will pop a crow with no problem... Also have two Thompson Centers, one an octagon old style ? 8" ? and a G2 23" barrel. Lots of fun....Have not shot it in some time. I need to pull it out to play with....

My dad had one, and loved it. He sold it for some reason in the 80's, and has always regretted it. He used it on wayward woodchucks.

"Hey you woodchucks! Quite chuckin' my wood!"

BLAM!!! No more woodchuck.

If you like the xp 100's I'll try to post a few pics of some I've built. I've built mine on mauser actions for larger calibers. I deer hunt with one in 357 max. I have one almost complete as a left hander in 44mag, I'm also doing one as a right hander in 44 mag and another in 460 S&w mag. They are very accurate and heavy enough to absorb lots of recoil. I'm away for a few days but can post pics in a few days.

It's getting hard to find one in original condition as the long range guys have scooped them up and turned them into long range rigs.

I have two of them, both in the opriginal caliber and with the original scopes, in the brown Remington vinyl cases. I've not seen the ammo at shops very often so I reload for these. Actually I reload for one, the other is a safe queen. Very accurate and fun to shoot.

Hey Lemmon, was it the RPM Gunshop? I bought a few rifles and pistols there during that same period. It had a nice range behind the shop if it is the same one. I think it was on James Island. The owners seemed to have a good eye for tasty pieces, and there was always eye candy under the glass. The main gent behind the counter wore a Colt SAA with smooth ivory stocks.

It was the RPM Gunshop on James Island

Thanks Jhenry, I could not remember the name of the gunshop or the name of that Island at the time of writing my post. Yep, I enjoyed going there and the folks were all real nice. Bought a number of items there. Sorry to see it go. It was a nice place to hang out. During that time I traveled all over South Carolina and being single had money. That was a long time ago..... Still have the XP100 will never sell it. Lemmon

I finally bought one....

Three weeks ago. Original stock (which was what I wanted), vent rib, etc. I won't be shooting it until probably spring though. Got to get brass and dies!

I haven't seen any factory ammo locally for years, but it is still listed online, and I expect I'll be getting some, Eventually.

I passed opn a number of them over the years, all with custom stocks and usually in some even more exotic caliber, because I wanted one in original condition, to complement my collection of model 600 rifles.

Didn't get the case or anything else, just the gun, but it looks like new, so I'm not unhappy. Great trigger pull too!

I can't recall just what they sold for when they came out, but I do remember that $99.95 was the MSRP of the model 600 rifle when it hit the market, and what my Dad paid for the .308 that I have today.

For a long time I could never figure out why Remington came out the the .221 Fireball. I mean, why didn't they just chamber the XP-100 in .222 Rem? It finally dawned on me a while back. The smaller .221 case holds all the powder you can use from the 10" barrel. Its more efficient. And, it gives Remington one more thing for us to spend our money on!:D

Here are my versions of the bolt action single shot pistols. They are both built on mauser actions. I built the bottom one about 15 years ago and chambered it in 357 max, It's taken lots of deer. The other one is almost finished and is for my son. I'm building it with a left hand stock and 44 mag chamber. I also have two others almost complete in 44 mag and 460 S&W,
Dave

Just curious Dave, since you have all that action length, why choose such (relatively) short cartridges?

(and "because I like them" is a perfectly good answer!)
