Reloading for winchester model 94 45 colt

Depending on wanting a light or heavy bullet this is what I use for my lever actions. I don’t use semi wad cutters because in my marlin 44 because they hang on the chamber opening at times. Mainly when I shoot 44 specials in them.
Penn bullets 200 round nose flat point is nice for plinking but for accuracy the 255 Round nose flat point is the best. My Ruger Blackhawk shoots them very well.
For powders I use everything from Herco to Win 231. Loading them are ease due to the bevel base and he supplies 4 different diameters. His are the only lead pistol bullet I use.
As far as your gun for powder, try them all and see what works best. Unique and bullseye are hard to beat. Get a Lyman's lead bullet loading manual for the best reference of lead bullet loads.

Yup I have the lymann 49th. I set up a ladder test with unique. I keep seeing people mention win 231, I'm gonna have to try and find that. And to make matters worse...I just got a rossi m92 in 357 mag! Ugh I got the bug bad

Ok found it, sort of. I didn't find it in any of my manuals. At the time I came up with this load I was loading for a Ruger Blackhawk as well and wanted a stout load that was safe in both. Basically I extrapolated Ruger-Only data and worked up. My actual load is 9.7gr Unique, I know I wen tup to at least 10 but I think I didn;t like the recoil in my Blackhawk so settled on 9.7gr and what I wasnted to tolerate in the Blackhawk. I've since traded the Blackhawk for a new model Vaquero and I don't shoot this load in that. 8.3gr Herco duplicates the 8.5gr of Unique pretty well.

Here's some reading for you about Ruger-only and levergun tests/data:

231 and Bullseye work fine, and can be accurate loads, but they have a risk in the big .45 Colt case, being the fastest powders, very little is needed for max level loads.

They are the most economical, giving the most loads from a pound of powder, but with max loads in the 6-7gr range (and plinking loads less) a double charge in the big 45 case is not as easy to spot as it is with slower, bulkier powders. And while I'm not offering to personally test it, I don't doubt a double charge of 231 will wreck even a Ruger Blackhawk.

So, use care when loading the fast powders, they won't announce a double charge the way slower powders will, BEFORE seating the bullet. And none of us want to hear that announcement after pulling the trigger!

Are we sure this isn't a model 92?

Well I took it out today. It shoots amazing. Seems like I could do 7 grains for a cowboy style load, while 9 grains of unique felt like a stout load. Overall very happy with this gun :):):)

The middle five shots were my first shots taken at 100 yards. I believe it was 8.7 grains unique. They were shot just to see if it was on paper and relatively quick shots because they were about to call cold. The red circles are 2 inch for comparison

Model 94 Winchester in 45 Colt...is this correct ?

Yep, I have one in the carbine length that was my grandfather's favorite rifle. Fun to shoot. Not a long range gun by any stretch, but a lot of fun to take out on occasion. I plan on taking a deer with it one of these days. Same with my .357/.38 Marlin lever gun.
