Reloaders Varmit Rifle

While I have a 22-250, Just a small FYI here- Compared to the other calibers mentioned here. The 22-250 is going to be the faster barrel burner and also the hardest on brass.

The 22-250 in my safe has a new barrel. The original barrel had at least 2000 rounds through it---I bought it used and the 2000 rounds is a very conservative estimate of how many rounds I fired with the gun. Rebarreled, it now and has over 600 rounds. The other day I was fiddling around working up a load with some 50 V-max I had leftover. (Use the 53 V-max exclusively since the new tube.) While using a dummy round to figure the COL with the 50's, I checked the freebore with a couple of 53's and the throat is maybe 0.005 in. longer than when it was new.

I have only bought brass for the 22-250 once--300 cases when I first got the gun and started loading for it. I have had maybe 25 cases crack on the neck, and maybe 5 that showed signs of case head separation. So that brass is lasting me for quite a few re-loads. I never hot rod the round. The load I have used since the rebarrel is pushing the bullet at about 3700 fps.

As always, YMMV.

The 25-06 that you have is deadly with the right load. The 22-250 is my all time favorite rifle. I normally stay with Sierra 52/53 gr. Hpbt. Just about as much fun as you can have with clothes on! I usually load about 38 gr. H380. It is not real fast but is not a barrel burner either. Really a great cartridge.

6.5 Creedmoor , shoots like a laser & using a 120 or 140gr. A Max hits like a 300 win mag. With low recoil. Check out the Savage long range precision.

If the OP wants a laser beam of a caliber, the 260 or 6.5 CM isn't it. Nice caliber, and I use a 260 mostly, but for flat shooting I'll grab my 220 Swift. But, for the OP, I'll again suggest a 243 with 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips at approx 4000 fps. Sighted in at 200 yards, he'd be down 5 inches at 300, 15 at 400, and only about 30 at 500. Then, when deer season is on again, he ramps up to 100 gr bullets. It's a good all around caliber, and if I didn't already have a 260, I'd get a 243.
