Reliable, versatile pocket carry . . .

Who hunts pockets?

When I was a kid I used to shoot pocket gophers. But I used a rifle chambered in .22 LR.

Very safe DAO trigger with a concealed hammer.

On what specific basis do you deem the LCP trigger to be very safe? Very safe compared to what?

Modern 380acp self defense ammunition is very capable of stopping a threat.

Have.380 Auto JHPs really improved much in terms of terminal ballistics performance post-Miami like 9 Luger JHPs seem to have done? The recently released .380 HST fails miserably in penetration.

Finally, the LCP is the gun you can carry when you can't carry a gun.

I do like that phrase.

Are those 9mm revolvers good for pocket carry? Not too heavy, not too thick?

It depends on what you are used to. They each weigh 22 oz. The Charter is a bit thicker, because its a 6 shot, opposed to the Taurus, which holds 5. They are small revolvers, the size of a J frame, or SP101. I have pocket carried each one, for hours at a time, and its not difficult, but you know they are there. I also have an Airweight J frame that weight 16 oz, and an SP101 that weighs 25 oz, so the 9mm revolvers are somewhere in between those two.

I like the Charter over the Taurus for several reasons. I now have a boot grip on it, and have replaced the hammer with a spurless DAO hammer. Plus it carries 6 rounds.

Pocket carry

PPK/S (non S&W) Older Colt Mustang KelTec P3AT

KelTec PF-9 Kahr CW9 In 380 or 9 those work for me

S&W snub revolver 38spl 158 gr +P SWCHP A revolver also works in pocket

Another happy TCP owner here, and I don't particularly like Taurus guns in general. Very easy to carry, and mine has been reliable and it's surprisingly accurate. That said, I've recently been getting more comfortable with the 1911 platform, and have been eyeing the Sig 238 as my next pocket pistol.

LCP + Hogue grip work well for me...
Aholster kydex holster for jeans pocket carry...
DeSantis Nemesis for Sunday go to meetin' dress pants carry...

:)

Small guns are usually more finicky on ammo. If you have one that you otherwise like why not just use the ammo that it likes? Self defense ammo isn't something you're going to send thousands of rounds downrange so find what's reliable and use it. Probably not going to send a whole lot of practice ammo out of a pocket pistol either so just live with what it likes.

My Sig P238 is a great little piece. Easy to carry, easy to conceal, very accurate, no issues. I usually carry it in a front pocket in a Desantis Superfly. The cover flap is velcroed in place, and makes it look like a fat wallet in my pocket. Pants with a bit of room (relaxed fit jeans, for example, or pleated khakis) make it just disappear.

It's very pleasant to shoot, too. Nothing like the (to me) nasty feel of an LCP, it has a smooth and well controlled recoil that feels very much like my Ruger SR9c. It's a quality piece that is a pure pleasure in every way. I shoot it at the range without hesitation because it is so comfortable to fire.

Sig's a little bigger, and unfortunately a lot more expensive than an LCP, for full disclosure.

Here's hoping my nano breaks-in and no more problems. If after 1000rd its still bugging, I'll probably get a G43 or maybe hold a XDs again-see if I can get used to the finger pinch under the trigger guard. Or maybe rent the shield again. Last time I did I hated the shield trigger. Tried a larger M&P same deal that trigger bugs me. P250SC is in my future in either 40 or 45, I may just give up on the pocket guns altogether and go with the P250 for year round use.
It sucks to plunk down $300 and than have issues. I hope I'm wrong but maybe Beretta should just stick with the semi shotguns and M92s, unless the rotary bbl storms are working good for people as well.
BTW as much as I hate to admit it, its possible I'm limpwristing the nano. Its new to me, its one of the smaller grip lengths you'll find on the two-finger hold types, but at least no finger pinch either so I prefer it. I don't limp wrist other subCs I've shot, or if I do they are more tolerant of it than the nano.

I'm going back to J-Frames.

I just prefer the simplicity and reliability of a revolver. I know there are those that will say a revolver can fail just like a pistol, but in my years of shooting, I've never had a revolver fail on me.

Got the Sig . . .

As posted elsewhere I got a Sig p238 and only 100 rounds down range so far I like it very much. Am almost ready to shoot some reloads and that will be a telling test.

Live well, be safe

Check out the Guns & Ammo july 2015 issue, they tested 10 different single stack 9 mm handguns . The Taurus 709 slim. I don't know if this model is small enough but I will quote "650+ , no cleaning, no lubrication, It's true. This Gun Runs. In spite of the pending criticism G&A expects from the web, we stay true to our experience. Zero malfunctions. It fired the best group at 1.18 inch , it was the best in the test."
The ammo used for all was Winchester Train and Defend. I think there is a video on their web site showing some of the testing.
