Reliability Of The S&W Shield 9 Compared To The Glock 26?

IWB seems silly too when a Glock 19 isn't that much heavier and has 50% more capacity unless you add magazine extensions to the 26 (then what's the point of having a small gun to begin with?)

The G19 is noticeably bigger and heavier than the G26. You have to consider the extra rounds, weight and size of the pistol itself.

I currently have the G19, and previously owned a G26 and G27. I just think the G26 is too fat and heavy for me for a daily ccw, so the G19 will be even more cumbersome.

I have a Taurus PT709 which is a single stack 9mm, basically a Glock43 with a safety. It has been reliable since day one, although not as highly-regarded as Glocks (I've owned it for 2yrs). Some may look down on it, but in my experience owning it, it has worked reliably and can be easily carried even in shorts.

In the end, use whatever works for you and your budget.

And yes, the Shield is reliable from my experience with the 40sw.

One fact that always becomes apparent in these threads is each person is different. We have people on here that conceal carry full size 1911s, and people that don't like going over a single stack pocket pistol. Your physical build, your clothing choices, the belt and holster you use, all of these factor in to what does or doesn't work for an individual when it comes to carrying. And there's no real right or wrong answer. Sometimes you just have to try and see what works for you personally.

I like my shield 9mm a lot. Newer manufacture, the trigger is great. Not a pain to fire at the range (unlike my p3at which beats up my trigger finger). The shield has been so reliable I usually only cycle through my mags at the range. Carry with 7rd, add 2 8rd mags in a small carrier. For me I really want the manual safety.

I conceal carried a 1911 for a while, then a glock 20, and a compact all steel tanfoglio witness large frame. Ended up pocket carrying a p3at for the longest, although pocket carry is a quick way to gunk up a small pistol that already is on the edge regardling reliability...got distracted and didn't carry for some years.

It's just easier to carry something smaller and too easy to find an excuse not to carry something bigger.

Well, I went and shot the 26 again today and I'll be darned if it isn't starting to grow on me a little. I also brought a Glock 19 with me that I haven't shot before today. I just had night sights installed at Glock on the 19 and wanted to run some rounds through it. I have read reports by quite a few people about shooting the 26 better than the 19 and I had the same experience. That doesn't seem like it should make sense.

Anyway, I guess I'll forego the Shield and see if I can't figure out a way to carry the 26 comfortably. Now, I just have to get rid of those five Shield magazines I bought thinking I was going to pick one up.

Agree with tunnel rat, each of us must decide for himself, my saying I prefer the Shield has no impact on anyone but me. Also ask any question on specific firearms and see the suggestions that range from a sling shot to a howitzer which ever Model pistol the poster likes better than that in question.:)

To the OP........

A simple upgrade on my Shield came by adding a short section of Bicycle Tube to the grip

It added volume and comfort for me

I would bring it to a shop and try out a bunch of holsters with the gun and see if you can find a good way to carry it. I like the 26 IWB at 3 or 4 oclock but obviously each of us are built differently and prefer different methods. The grip is just short enough not to print on a shirt at 3 and 4 which is why I couldnt use the 19. Having said that I am carrying my SW bodyguard pretty much all of the time now because its just so much easier to carry.
