Reliability of Taurus Lock?

Gorlitsa: Why risk a "useless" gun in an emergency?? Spend a few bucks on a Canon or Amsec lock box. The 5-button combination is easy to operate in complete darkness & there is NO unauthorized access. The gun can safely be loaded in the box & accessed in 3 seconds without any keys to lose or locks to lock themselves. I only own one pistol (HK USP 40) with a lock & it will NEVER be my defense gun.

Why?

1) My mother would not enjoy having a gun safe next to my bed, which happens to be in the living room.

2) This is a brand-new gun. I havn't even gotten to a range with it yet. And it's a snubby. I never bought this with the intent to have it be a "reliable" defensive gun. I just thought that if worse comes to worse, having it loaded would be a big help.

3) I'm a poor college student, and don't want to spend a penny more on my habit right now. At least, not until I get a job. ;)

I don't know where I heard this, but isn't it true that Taurus will replace the hammer w/lock with a standard hammer on the revolvers for those not wanting the lock?

is that true at all?

does anyone know if the Taurus 650's have the lock? if so, where/how as they have no exposed hammer...

I have a Taurus 650 sitting in front of me at the moment. The lock is at the very rear of the weapon. In fact, the rubber grip ALMOST hides the lower part of it. When aiming this gun, look 1 inch below the rear sight and you will see the small black lock.

The lock has been used a few times but has been no problem with this gun.
