Rekindling the caliber war: the *decisive* effect

Geez, and I had almost completely shaken those "failure to stop" nightmares. Anyway, like others have already commented: handguns are a marginal stopper at best. Sure, the assailant dies, eventually, but what we all want, I assume, is an immediate cessation of the attack. Given the dynamic nature of gunfights, the ability to achieve "well placed hits" becomes somewhat problematic. Yet, to have an even chance at stopping the assault this is most often exactly what you need with handgun defense. Anyway, I still carry the .40S&W cailber, the moderately light & fast 155gr JHP formats. I shoot the caliber (and firearm) moderately well, it's moderately powerful with adequate "ballistics" (for a handgun), it's habit, and I'm still alive.Stay safe.

Shortly on our web page we have a new gallery going up showing some internal organs hit with some hollowpoints. Not as dramatic as one would think. Walt has it nailed right but there is one non-medical factor. Why some will drop from a marginal hit and others keep going with massive damage done. There is a mental factor involved and we know little about it. The common gun magazine logic of all thugs being drug infested drunked bully like slobs isn't very realistic. Most blood tests show those shot by cops to be drug free, but some alcohol involved in a larger number of cases, but not enough to account for the bizaar behavior after being shot. More work needs to be done.
