Redfield Revenge 4-12x42 Scope

Would this be a good scope for a Savage Axis in .22-250? I can get one locally for 219.99. It has a standard reticle, which I like. And it comes with covers and stuff, which is cool. Any opinions on this scope would be very helpful.
Thanks!

Honestly IMO no it wouldn't be a good scope. For the money you're wanting to spend I'd buy a Leupold VX1 3-9X40. You'll get much better glass for the money and you won't even miss the 14X top end.

I have the 4-12X40 Redfield Revolution and I can tell you the current VX1 has it beat hands down. Better glass and better feeling adjustments, just better all around IMO.

The Redfield Revolution is a decent scope, much better than the Revenge. The VX-1 is a bit better than the Revolution and well worth the extra cost. The Burris FF-II is another good choice in the same price range.

It is not that the Revenge is a bad scope, just that the other options are much better, for only slightly more money. The extra $30-$50 you spend will never be missed. The extra quality will be appreciated for a lifetime.

For a broke 14 year old it will! :P
The actual gun is already a huge purchase for me.

I'm going to look around a bit more. I'm going to look through the scope in person next week. So, I'll see how I like it. And I'll go from there for different options.

Redfield Revenge should come in a blister pack. Yes, it really is that bad. Revolution is a good scope, the Revenge is a joke. I am going to be the oddball, but I have one Revolution and one VX1, the Revolution is much clearer than the VX1.

Natchez shooters supply has the nikon buckmasters
4.5-14X40 with side focus and bdc reticle for 199 on close out. Im not a huge fan of the bdc. I have one and never actually use it. It appears the nikoplex model is sold out. This is a lot of scope for the money and much better than any revenge model.

I have a vx-1 and used to have a revolution I don't see much difference. As stated there are better options for the same price. I"m a big advocate of the revolution and leupold lines. Plus those are american built. I'd also look on gunbroker. I picked up a used FX leupold for under 200 and since it's a leupold I can send it off to them for repairs if anything ends up being wrong with it.

Here is a better option for a budget restricted shooter:

I have one, and it is better than my Burris Fullfield II, my son's Nikon Prostaff, and is a super bargain at $119.99 + shipping. Backed by Weaver, made in Japan, far superior to chinese scopes or even the Philipines manufactured optics. The only downside is that they are only 9X on the top end. If you need more magnification, I would recommend one of the Nikon Buckmasters 4-14X scopes offered on the same website for $199.99 on sale. I have one of those, too and they are decent for the money. (I think the Nitrex is still better optically, though)

The good news is the 3-9X40 VX1 is cheaper than the Revenge scope he's looking at. If you must have a 12X or higher scope look at the Buckmaster as suggested and you might take a look at Sightron.

For the price range you're looking at, there are also a couple of really good choices in Nikon, Bushnell, and Vortex. Vortex's warranty is something I would strongly consider, and over the other brands in my store I actually think the glass looks better at that price range. Just something to consider and just my opinion.

I have had bad luck with anything made by leupold/redfield. the glass on redfields is nice and clear but they are not durable and personal experience with their service dept was less than satisfactory. personally I would get a Vortex or nikon instead. the Nikon Prostaff 4-12 is about the same price and I have had good luck with it. the Vortex Diamondback is another good scope which should be able to be had for about that price range.

I have never heard of nitrex but the parent company weaver usually does a decent job with optics.

Skip the Revenge line of scopes.

I have a Redfield Revenge 4-12x42mm. It's nowhere near as good as the Revolution line. I will not buy another.
On top of that, the Revenge line is made in the Philippines, not Oregon.

I know some people love them, but my family has had nothing but trouble with Nikon scopes - and MASSIVE headaches or outright denials when it comes to warranty service. Right now, my father, alone, is sitting on two Nikons with broken erectors, and Nikon won't touch them because he doesn't have the original receipts.

If you gave me a choice between a Redfield Revenge and a Nikon (anything), I'd buy a Tasco Pronghorn. It would be a cheap scope to get me shooting until I had enough money saved for a Leupold.

Alternatively, I might go cruise for a used Leupold. Even if it has problems, as long as it's a 'Gold Ring' scope, Leupold will repair or replace it for free ... forever.

Waiting little while longer to get something BETTER is always worth the trouble

I realize it's hard to do sometimes, but it pays off in the end, because if you settle for a lower quality scope, when it gives you problems, you'll end up spending more to replace it than it costs to get the better one to begin with.

I've got Revolution 4-12 and a Leopold Rifleman 3-9.

Neither has given me issues on the years I've owned them, despite the "if you don't spend $600 on a scope it's crap" remarks I've received from people over the years.

They may not be as fancy, or expensive, as the higher tier models, but they do the job just fine, and it was what I could afford at the time.
