Recommended first rifle and best practices

For leverguns, I recommend a used Winchester '94-22. They're more expensive than Henry rifles, but tougher. As long as the crown and barrel are OK and the action smooth, it's hard to go wrong buying one used. Mine has survived some pretty rough work in the devil's club and alder thickets, and has actually improved with age.
 
Well, I'm gonna swing by Wally world today and write down some prices, then stop by one of the gun shops on the way to work and have a chat. I'll probably make a decision and buy one next week.

The picture isn't really great, but you can see it somewhat. I bought a not-too cheap scope... 4x32. Not those dinky ones that are about as big a round as your finger, but then again not a huge hunting one.

This should make a good gun to get a handle on and figure out the basics I hope.
