Recommendations on small 9mm?

Glock 26 - first choice
Sig P228 - second choice
Kahr E9 - third choice

Got a fat wallet. Money no problem - HKP7

Join artech and me in the HKP7 club. But get the PSP, it's better contoured for CC. The P7M8 is fun for training too!

I would suggest that you try a Glock 26. If that is too small, you might wish to try a Glock 19 or a SIG 228.
These are all fine pistols that I feel are reliable and excellent shooters.
Good luck,
Mike

I'm really sold on the accuracy and reliability of the SIG 239. Please give it you consideration. Regards, Dennis

Well, how small do you need it? I would go with the HK USP 9 compact. If it's anything like my fullsize you'll love it! :)

I'd like to add my voice to those recommending that you take a look at the Sig P239. You can get them in 9mm or .40 S&W/.357 Sig on the same frame.

GOOD gun. Have put about 5,500 rounds through mine in 2 1/2 years with one problem, and that was myt fault because I didn't clean and oil it before I took it to the range for the first time.

IMNSHO, the P7 is the PERFECT CCW pistol. It has the best combination of size-accuracy-precision-power-quickness of use-safety that can be had, period. Of course, it's not for everybody it IS expensive relative to other 9 mm handguns, and it's not the most lightweight choice you can make. Everything is a matter of deciding which factors are most important for your particular case. For some, size must be kept to an absolute minimum, for others, power is paramount. I believe the P7 (PSP or P7M8) is unexcelled as the overall best choice you could make.

Thanks, everybody

I will need to go and check out these recommendations before deciding. My first desire was for a 9mm about the same size as the Walther. But I must admit, these posts have gotten me interested in checking out the others before deciding.

If you have a Deutsche Walther, please, keep it. Buy yourself a $200 Kel-Tec P 11 if you must have a 9mm to satisfy the curiosity but please keep that Walther, you will not recieve what it is really worth via a trade.

A Sucker who has lost many dollars on trade-ins.

Have to agree with others here. The Glock 26 is a great gun. My personal second choice would be the Star Firestar in 9mm. I've had two myself and shot two others. For not a lot of money they work great. Only two problems with the Star. 1. it's fairly heavy for it's size and 2. it's single action.

I noticed that no on here mentioned a
Beretta Cougar or Mini-Cougar. I don't
have one, but when I look in the archives,
everyone who owned one and has posted something
about one has said good things.

Is the Cougar not a very popular gun? If
so, why not? (Not being argumentative, just
wondering what people think of the cougar.)

Thanks

In my opinion the Beretta Cougar series is a great gun line. I have an 8040 and the 8045.
Looking to get the 8000 9mm to finish the collection. I like their feel and they shoot well. I only suggested the P99 because Canuck
was already a Walther fan. And I believe the P99 would make a good carry gun. I have one and I was impressed. First gun I owned that is polymer framed. I like it.
Just my 2 cents worth

Happy Shooting :)

Help Stamp Out Gun Ignorance.

I've been checking everyone's recommendations, and I must say, it makes my job harder - I now lust after several of the guns - KahrMK9, H&KP7,Sig239 come to mind. I also came across some of the larger caliber pocket rockets - Kahr MK40, and paraordinance small .45. If anyone has shot both the 9 mm and .40 Kahr, can you tell me how the recoil, noise, controlability for double taps, etc. compares? I would normally think that the small gun size and short barrel would make for a poor use of the .40 cartridge, but the gun seems to have gotten good reviews. Similarly, anybody have any thoughts on the small para-ordinance .45? Would seem to me to be too short a barrel for effective use and control for a .45, but I've never tried one.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm certainly enjoying investigating all these possibilities, although I've added more guns to my want list, instead of shortening it.

Do we define "small" by weight or size. I define "small" as a pistol that can be carried comfortably in your pocket, which lets out anything above 20 ounces or so. Kahr's are good but heavy, Keltec or Taurus make lighter pistols that won't make your pants fall off.

For all the above stated reasons a Sig 239, but make sure you get the Hogue grips. It's sooo dreamy.
