Recommendations on small 9mm?

I'm thinking about trading in my Walther .380
on a 9mm, but want the minimum increment in size. What do folks recommend? The Walther is german-made and a really excelelnt gun. I wouldn't want to give up anything in quality.

I can recommend either the Sig 225 or the H&K P7M8, either fits your requirements and both are compact.

I've carried a Smith 3913, Smith 457, Smith 640, Sig 239, and Glocks 27 and 30 before I had a Kahr MK9. I prefer the Kahr hands down. I can carry it anytime of the year without detection on my waist, pocket, or fanny pack. Haven't tried ankle. It's as accurate as anything other CCW and 100% reliable. I have one of the LTD versions in Black T and its a keeper.

Kahr K9. my buddy just got one. It is NICE!!! :)

Just as there is no such thing as too much fun,
there is no such thing as owning just one gun!!!

Off my meds (quit smoking), armed to the teeth, and loose on an unsuspecting society!!!

Greetings; Some great choice's here, but I
hate to see you give up on that German made
Walther .380!!! But if you must, my vote
would have to go to the SigArms P239. :)

The Kahr MK9 is actually smaller than the Walther and doesn't sacrifice anything in terms of quality. If size and quality are your main criteria, you really should consider this fine pistol.

The only tiny nine I have experience with is the Keltec P11 and I can wholeheartedly recommend that you don't even look at one. It might break it.

Definitely look at the Kahr MK 9. They're rated for +P.
With a good IWB holster, it's very concealable. I've never had a failure to feed with mine (although I've read of some on this forum).
The only downside is the weight (21 oz.). I like to carry in a pocket holster and it's a bit too heavy for that.

You mentioned size, but not weight...

If size in the only determinant, then one of the smaller Kahrs is the answer. If weight is an issue (along with size), I'd recommend a Kel-Tec P11. (I shot mine today in an IDPA session, and did well with it.)

The new Kahr polymer framed gun may be the best choice, but I've only heard about them, not seen them.

2 recommendations:

1) Keep the Walther .380. The one I'm familiar with (belongs to a friend) is a really nice piece of hardware. I must admit, I don't like to sell/trade guns.

2) If you're looking at a 9mm as a way to upgun to a more powerful round, consider the Kahr MK40. Still very concealable, and with more punch still over the small 9's. Holds only one less round than the MK9 (5 and 6 round mags, +1). I got one the end of last year and love it.

canuck, If you don't want to give up your Walther then check out the Walther P99. I don't think you will go wrong with one of those in 9mm.

Happy Shooting :)

I have to agree with some of the other folks. If you're looking for something even smaller than your current .380, go with the Kahr MK9. I'm able to carry it concealed in a belly band all year round even in the hot southern summers.

If you don't mind something a little bit bigger, go with a S&W 3913 -- they function almost the same as your current gun (safety in the same location, etc.). I carry it during the rare times that it gets cold enough for a jacket down here (I sure miss the cold north).

I lean heavily towards the Kahr K9 or the smaller MK9. Shot my K9 in an IDPA match yesterday in SSP. It is a natural pointer for me. Consistent A-zone hits out to 7 yards, just point and shoot. Shot the match using a Milt Sparks IWB and one spare mag.

It points better than a Glock, I know I have one. No failures to feed or eject. Conceals easily.

Well, first let me ask, is yours a Walther PP or PPK? If it's a PP and you want something nearly the same size and with 100% reliability look into a SIG Sauer P239. In fact, even you have a PPK look into the P239.
