Recommend me a handgun to purchase

Steel Baby eagle is a great piece. Recoil is lighter than my 92fs which is my other recommendation. Baby has a tight curve trigger though so you may not like that. Trigger change is pretty easy though. Baby is about $60 cheaper than 92 at my LGS. Beretta materials feel better to me. The finish and grip at least.

I was able to stop at my LGS yesterday evening and checked out a few of the guns. The first one I looked at was an EAA Witness in 10mm. It was at a great price and I like the look but the slide seemed a bit looser than I'm used to. They didn't have an M&P45 but I did get to handle one is .40S&W and I liked the feel of it. They unfortunately did not have a Baby Eagle of any caliber so I didn't get to check one of them out. I'm going to call around today and see if one of the other gunshops in my area has one in stock. I also looked at a Rock Island 1911 and was actually rather intrigued by it. For as cheap as it was it felt like a very solid gun. It was a different shade than pretty much every other 1911 I've ever seen so it made me worry that if I bought it I would have problems finding replacement parts in the same finish though. Last but not least I looked at a P220. Just like with the P226, I love the design. It feels good in my hand and looks good. If it wasn't for the price I would have bought the gun then and there. I could get a high end Springfield 1911 for the price my LGS wants for this gun so I think I'm going to shop around for better prices.

Though I have no experience with EAA, I have read an awful lot of negative feed-back concerning their customer service record. Try doing a search to see what I mean.

Gock or XD or S@W or Ruger! Why? Lots them around which means of parts around and good customer service by the manufactures. The new Sigs suck.

FN Five Seven for fun

FN FNP, FNS, or FNX for bigger caliber.

Another posted said it. If you like Sig, try FN. High quality, accurate, excellent guns.

A used S&W revolver can be found for reasonable prices if one looks around. I found this Mod 67-1 prelock model just before Christmas for about $325 for just the gun with a Houge MonoGrip. It has performed flawlessly. The only problem I have had from it was the firing pin broke at the range. The reason for that was from my mistakes. The part to fix it cost me less than $20. It was fixed in under 30 minutes.

Thanks for all of the recommendations everyone. I ended up buying a Rock Island 1911. How I ended up with this gun is a kind of funny story. I wanted something in .45 auto with a full steel frame. The main gun I was wanting to look into was a Magnum Research Baby Eagle but had a hard time finding one. I went to a shop in Nashville Saturday that I was told by a friend had one last week but when I got there it had been sold. I gave in and just decided to buy a 1911 since I have never handled a Baby Eagle and so didn't want to blindly purchase one online not knowing how it feels. The shop had a nice used Colt Commander for $700 that I decided on purchasing. I filled out all of the paperwork and when the background check was ran it came back as the gun being stolen. The guy at the shop said when he took it in trade about a month earlier he ran it and it came back clean but apparently that changed in the last month. After that I decided on a new Rock Island he had sitting in the display case. I am very happy with the gun plus I have an extra $400 to spend on another gun if I choose to since my budget was $800 and I ended up with the cheaper $400 Rock Island. After that experience I think I'm only going to buy used guns if the seller is willing to do a transfer. I wouldn't want to be the owner of that shop who was out the price of that gun because it turned out to be stolen.

Sounds good... Most of the chatter on the net is very positive regarding Rock Island as a solid value. And thanks for letting us know... I like threads that have some resolution!

The Rock Island 1911 is a nice pistol from what I've read. But a used Colt Commander selling for $700.00 in nice condition? If you would have got it for that price, it would have been stolen twice.
