Recommend Holster for CCW

Greetings,

Recently, I posted a message in the General Discussion forum about whether or not I should consider carrying a concealed weapon. If I do decide to go down that road, I think I will need to purchase another holster for my S&W 4013.

Presently, I have a Kramer belt scabbard (OWB) for the 4013. I also have a Cobra Gunskin shoulder harness that I bought with the gun when new back in the early 1990s. I was young, and Miami Vice was still popular.

Anyway, the research that I have done leads me to believe that an IWB may be the ticket to carry the 4013 reasonably concealed. As I mentioned in my previous post, money IS an object, and so I don't want to buy the most expensive holster if I don't have to. On the other hand, I am willing to spend what needs to be spent in order to get something worthy of trusting my life with.

It seems like every time I search the Internet for opinions on a holster, I end up finding some fantastic reviews covering products/brand names that I never knew existed. For this reason, it seems like going to a few outdoor stores or local gunshops to look at holsters up close, while probably a good idea, would result in a very limited selection compared to what is actually available out there.

I have thought about going back to Kramer, but their products are somewhat pricey.

All opinions are appreciated.

Don Hume for off the shelf reasonable I have a couple
Most of the big name leather people will have a good IWB holster for a reasonable price Just stay a way from the cheap nylon 10buck specials

If you go IWB, be sure to get something with a flat inner face. Carrying around a brick stuffed inbetween belt and hip bone really gets uncomfortable after 15 minutes and you'll be doing the 'weapon shift' thing more than you'd like.

Beyond that, tough call. Personal preference really. Heard great things about the Minotaur holsters but haven't tried one yet. They have a large conforming leather plate with a kydex form bolted to it.

Other than price...

I've yet to be disapponted by Galco.

There are many fine makers out there to fit your need and budget.

One thing though...

As I'm sure you know...almost no holster is going to ride right without spending on a quality gun belt too.

I live 2 blocks from galco. and can tell you they make a fine product. now with that said I am wearing a crossbreed supertuck right now, and always do. It is simple the best concealable and most comfortable holster I have ever owned.

Galco

I use a Galco leather holster with belt clip....Gun goes inside my pants and clip to the outside. I love it very comfortable and I am concealing a P229 Sig. Fullsized weapon.

Advice from people on an internet forum might not help, because too much depends on how you're built. If you have a 40" waist and a 38" chest, getting advice from a guy with a 32" waist and 42" chest won't do you any good.

My chest is 12" bigger than my waist. I wear Hawaiian shirts. I can carry damn near anything OWB.
One of my best buddies has a chest that's 3" smaller than his waist. He carries a SIG .45 in a fanny pac. Boy, do I have fun with him!!

If you're anything like the rest of us, in a few years you too will have a couple of boxes full of holsters that didn't work out.

I wouldn't deny you the same opportunity.

I checked out the Crossbreed Supertuck. As luck would have it, they do list the S&W 4013 as an available model. I've done some other Internet searches, and I can't really find anyone saying anything bad about them.

Not too expensive either - compared to some of the custom leather holsters out there. I may give it a try.

there web site say 3-4 weeks i think. I got mine from them in 3 days. They are a great company. they even let you try if for a month and if you don't like it they will let you return it for the full price. its hard to go wrong with a deal like that. but the above is right everyone is built different. If the supertuck doesn't work for you, I am also a fan of the galco summer comfort and high noon hidden ally. Buy my first choice and recommendation would be the supertuck

Two brands I usually use...

www.andrewsleather.com for IWB look at the MacDaniel series

www.simplyrugged.com for IWB for an auto look at the Cuda, with inside-out straps

Sam Andrews and Rob Leahy make comfortable, durable rigs. I have several holsters of both makes.

And if you know Sam, he tells some great stories.

IWB and I generally don't get along, with the exception of a Brommeland Max Con IWB holster. I generally don't have a problem concealing with an OWB holster underneath an untucked shirt.
