recommend a good 22 lr target gun

I currently have a Ruger 22/45 with a 4" barrel that says target on the barrel. What I don't like about it is that I can't change the grips, I don't like the tigger and it is only a 4" barrel. I called Ruger and they won't sell me a longer barrel because the serial number in on the barrel.

Couple of options to look at. S&W 622, 422, or 2206. Also, S&w 617. Also, beretta 87 target or 89. Also, Benelli mp95e

I have a red dot on my Ruger 22/45 so sight radius is not a factor, but is a 6" barrel more accurate than a 4" barrel ?

A longer barrel is not more accurate than a shorter one, but the extra weight up front will help the gun settle down better in your hands. Plus the longer sight radius helps when using iron sights.

I am seeing a few Ruger Mark Is in LGS. Older people are selling their guns especially widows. Nope I am not selling mine.

Forget the NEOS.
Horrible trigger that is nearly impossible to improve.
All the others the OP mentions are GTG.
As for me, I alternate between High Standard, Buckmark and S&W 617 revolver depending on the game and my mood at the moment.

For accurate handgun .22LR shooting I like the Mark II or Mark III. Disassembly is really not that big of a deal once you get the hang of it.

Lots of aftermarket tune-up parts including the VQ extractor, firing pin, and sear.

It is hard to beat the Browning Buckmark for a nice target .22. If you're looking for a range toy that'll eat everything, then a Ruger SR22 is a great value, however the trigger is a little squishy.

I consider pistols like the Ruger Mk and the Browning Buckmark to be plinkers, not target pistols. For purely target pistols, no one has mentioned the Biakal IZH35M. I have two of them. Bought one in 2000 for $400 new. Another in 2002 for $410 new. I would think you could find a good used one for around $300 maybe less. They are not a “pretty” handgun, but very accurate.

I'll put a good word in for the Buckmark as well.

If you have the money, the 9mm CZ 75 along with the added Kadet 22lr slide makes for double the fun.
IMO the accuracy and reliability of both the Buckmark and CZ 9mm/22lr are outstanding.

Target 22s

One of the Rugers hands down. Just buy one with steel lower, lifetime pistol.
Buckmarks shoot well but are not life time guns. There used to be a lot of good
22 pistols in this class Colt Woodsman series, High- standards, Brownings and
S&W m-46. The bean counters have ruined all them. You might find one of these
on used market.

My friend at the LGS gave me a good deal on a Browning Buck Mark a week or so ago. I finally got to shoot it this morning. The sights and trigger are ridiculously good. I shot one group where only one of the ten shots wasn't touching the other ones. It is every bit as good as my FiL's Ruger MK II target model.
