The rubber jacket Algore is wearing is the olive drab version of the modern wet weather top. The muzzle brake on the rifle is a plastic muzzle cap like the one my squad leader uses on no-ammo field exercises to keep dirt from getting into the barrel. And if he's in Vietnam, I bet that rubber jacket is HOT. Those things are unbearable even if it's the least bit muggy outside. And what is that wad on top of his ruck? Is that a sleeping bag? That's a GREAT way to carry it, so it gets rained on and gets all muddy. Where the hell's his web gear? Not even a pistol belt. No wonder he has to have his canteen on his ruck. (Have a hard time reaching it there, wouldn't he?)
So, lets review. He's wearing a jacket that wasn't issued until after the Vietnam war ended, he's got a plastic cap on his rifle, he's got no web gear, no ammo pouches, only one canteen, (that looks like a modern plastic canteen, too), a WINTER sleeping bag improperly carried, and he's wearing a boonie hat. Now, I know that sometimes, troops are allowed to wear boonie hats. I've seen it in pics from 'Nam, and pics from Desert Storm. But...
The picture is fake-ola. Embarrassingly fake. Flaming fake.
