Real Life Feedback on the Taser C2

Short of decapitation, nothing is a 100% man-stopper.

I took the full 5 second ride from an M26 TASER, and have had 7 live deployments on the street that all worked (aside from the guys that managed to break the wire rolling around or falling). I really believe it's an incredible tool that gives me another level between talking and shooting.

I've also witnessed, while working at the jail, a kid walk through the full 5 second ride. It was a picture perfect deployment: one dart between the shoulders, one in the lower back. And the kid kept walking out the slides. He looked like Mr. Roboto, but he kept going. He wasn't an emotionally disturbed person, and he wasn't high--he just really didn't want to be in jail that day.

It's a good tool-but no tool is perfect.

Here is a Taser tactic I saw on a video where a lone officer on the side of a highway tased an individual.

Basically, he tased the man and he went down on the ground. He tried to get up and the officer tased him again with a short pulse. The officer then yelled in a loud, hard, commanding manner if the guy gets up then "I'll hit you again".

The guy did attempt once or twice to get up and the officer hit him with a short pulse until the guy no longer made the attempt. The guy ended up laying flat on his belly and no longer made any attempts to get up. Although, the officer was standing there in the middle of the road holding the taser until backup arrived.

Im guessing short pulses until the target is on the ground then **yell** like a madman that if he gets up then he will be tased then once he tries give him a nice short pulse until compliance.

I am sure your firearms instructor has a taser sitting on his nightstand-NOT!
Dude if you worried about self defense get what I got. Ruger.45 ACP, Hollowpoint so the neighbors don't wake.

My opinion if you have the balls to crawl into my house at night then you have the balls to take two in your chest and if you continue to move forward then I just shoot better.

Kill

My understanding is, the technology is the same as that in the Taser X-26. If that's true, I've been on both ends of that, and, trust me, you don't want a second shot.

I will second this whole heartedly:eek:

I will never get hit with it again!!!

I bought a C2 for my wife since I can't get her to go to the range with me. She has shot a few times before and I even dragged her kicking and screaming to a concealed weapons permit course. She never went to the police department to get her finger prints done or sent in her paperwork so a lot of good that did.

My biggest concern is her mental preparation and determination to defend herself in the event of an attack. If she did pull a gun, would she hesitate and have it taken from her? If she did fire the gun, would she hit her target or possible an innocent bystander?

I had to explain it to her this way... A Tazer is not a lethal device. If you are scared for you life and you use it, there will be little to no legal recourse. Even if you miss, you have practically no chance of killing an innocent bystander. If you do miss, you can use the stun gun feature. Either way, it is better than going at it completely unarmed. My wife is all of 5'4" and barely weighs 100lbs. Even with training, I don't believe that she has the mentality to be able to defend herself.

We were broken into a few years back and she was the one who discovered it when she got home. Fortunately, the burgler had already left. She was rather shaken up of course and we ended up moving. To make matters worse, I used to have to travel a lot for work, leaving her home alone. I gave her my GP 100 which she keeps next to her side of the bed. I told her that if I am not home and the alarm goes off, to drop to her side of the bed and point the gun at the bedroom doorway. If anyone comes through, shoot them. I am trying to convince her to lock the bedroom door but she doesn't want to deal with the hassle. We also live in a good aread inside a gated community. Before the flaming starts... We don't have any kiddies yet so no worries about that. The only people who have keys to my house also have the alarm code (her sister). If I trip the alarm, I will yell that it was me and I will turn it off immediately. Flame suit off.

Sorry for the long post... The short of it... I don't trust my wife to carry a gun in public so she gets a Tazer. At home she will be grabbing the revolver. (minimal chance of over penetration due to the layout of the house.)

I took the ride on a C2 back in November for a training DVD that we are doing for civilian use of Chemical/Electrical defense.

The new XP probes are impressive (this was my 4th time being shot with probes). I honestly think they caused more pain & perceived force... but this was also my first shot in the chest (as opposed to the back), so that may have played a roll.

I did not go for the full 30 seconds... only about 5-6.

I think the C2 makes a good personal defense tool, but they are certainly not "100% reliable".... I went through the instructor course years ago and have keep up with them throughout the decade. I have been shot with the M26, X26 and C2 and felt the pulse from all models. It can fail for a variety of reasons (battery, misses of probes, mental state of person being hit, physical location of hit, etc).

really interesting thread..and that PETA non approved bull video is also quite interesting

but like that great video of the bull getting tazed shows, as soon as the tazing stops, one recovers almost instantaneously..if the attacker is armed, as soon as the tazing stops he can take out his gun and ventilate you..

in LE, that's not as much of a problem I suppose because by the time someone gets tazed, other officers are on the scene and lethal force is instantly available if necessary..if one carries, that lethal force can also be available rather quickly, but if one doesn't carry, then as soon as that charge is done, as Pax and others have said, and as the video suggests, you might have a real or figurative bull ready to demolish you, or to simply take out a gun and shoot..

I'm also wondering how attackers in full sympathetic fight mode, or someone high on stimulants or on a dissociative anaesthetic like ketamine or PCP would react to being tazed

That's the reason for the C2's 30 Second Cycle.... It is designed to be dropped while the user gets AWAY. If that is not feasible, the C2 will deliver repeated cycles like other Taser units.

It is my understanding that Taser will give them a new one as long as they get a copy of the Police Report.

As I noted, nothing is perfect, but the Taser is a better option than spray, blade, stick or anything else that I can think of (non-firearm) if the would-be victim has the chance to act beyond 2 arms reach distance.

The video linked below has foul language and also shows the quick recovery time....

I think one major point we are missing is how effective the Tazer is at incapacitating someone. While bullets incapacitate through pain, muscle, nerve, and bone damage, and blood loss, it sometimes takes time for the effects to stop an attacker. Short of a brain shot, there are no gaurantees of immediately ending an attack by shooting someone (with a regular hand gun). Tazer claims that the attacker is incapacitated faster than even if someone is shot since the electrical impulses interrupt motor function. I know their video is going to biased, but the responses from those who have been tazed seem to confirm its effectiveness. I'm sure many have heard of incidences where there have been failures to stop an attacker despite multiple shots to center of mass. It may be adrenaline or drugs, but the attacker is still capable of inflicting harm. I doubt that my wife can handle more than a small caliber pistol and I think she is better served with a Taser. As I mentioned in my other posts, there are several reasons for that decision. Tasers do have their limitations, but I don't think anyone should discount the Taser's effectiveness when used properly.

I'm not sure about everyone's notion of immediate recovery after being tased. I saw a guy get tased amd he looked pretty winded afterwards. If you get the full 30 second cycle, I doubt you will be getting up and continuing the attack. Besides, 30 seconds is more time than you think for beating a hasty retreat.
