"Real Feel" of recoil of .375 H&H mag

I do not have a 375 H+H.I have a 375 Taylor.I neck .458 Win down.

My initial load development gave 2600 fps with a 270 gr bullet ,I got good accuracy and it was enough,I never pushed to get more out if it.

Its on an old Mauser FN commercial action,1952 I think.

Garrett Accra-Lite foam core /fiberglass stock

Leupold 1.5 to 5 x Vari-X3.

I can't tell you the weight, but pretty light.

I enjoy shooting it.I do not enjoy shooting guns that hurt.

In part, while I do hold it firmly to my shoulder, part of being able to call the shot, for me,is to relax.I do not try to take the recoil as an oak tree, more like a willow.

The scope has generous eye relief,no brow bashing.

There is something to the idea a 7mm Rem Mag or .300 mag might feel worse to shoot.IMO,it has to do with the speed of acceleration.

High pressure and accelerating a bullet to the 3000 fps range produces a sharper/quicker recoil..the recoil "punch" seems to penetrate the shoulder.

I do get shoved, moved by my .375,but it does not give the penetrating, bruising sort of recoil.

What is a little funny,it has a fairly thick pad on it,Sorbothane,I think.I get a two stage, double thump out of it,the pad bottoms out! That may be part of what works for me.

Well, my .375 H&H Mark V WBY did not kick bad at all. 12 gague shotgun 3" turkey load would be what I would compare it to. After I got the wild Idea to turn it into a .378 WBY, it kicked like a mule with steel shoes.

I've only shot one twice and that was standing. I'd hate to have fired it sitting at the bench. I had zero problems with the 300 Winchester or 7mm Rem Magnum but those two times with a 375, once with the 270 gr bullet and the other a 300 gr solid were enough for me. A gunsmith loaned it to me to shoot and gave me three cartridges telling me I'd bring one of them back...I did.
