Range Report -- new CZ452 Ultra Lux

Finally got my new CZ452 Ultra Lux (.22LR) to the range today. She is equipped with a Redfield Revolution 2-7x33 scope. My goal today was to zero the rifle. Here is a pic of the rifle and scope setup:

At the range the rifle operated perfectly. I was shooting Federal Auto-Match .22LR lead-tipped rounds which is good if not great ammunition. No ejection or extraction issues whatever; the rifle ran like a dream. Zero was at 25 yards. At first the rifle was firing about 3 inches to the right, with elevation perfect. After about 4 adjustments (the last two being VERY slight) these are the targets. The one on the right is 25 rounds, the one on the left is 10 rounds. Hilariously, when I was shooting the left-hand target I thought at first that I was missing because my rounds kept going through the same spot on the target.

I was shooting from a sandbag rest, not a vise, and these are probably the best groups that I personally have shot with any rifle at 25 yards. The Redfield scope is perfect for the rifle in my opinion. The center-circle reticle of the Revolution scope fits right over the bull's-eye making target acquisition very easy and precise.

Here is my review of the scope on Amazon ("helpful" clicks appreciated) Amazon.com: Roger J. Buffington's review of Redfield Revolution 2-7x33mm Accu-Range

Really going to have fun shooting this rifle!

The 452 is a solid rifle with very good fit and finish and very good accuracy. I really like mine.

The one question I have always had is why the receiver is as rough as it is while the barrel is a beautiful polished blue?

I love my Ultra Lux. I tuned the trigger, and rather than scope it, I put BRNO aperture sights and a good sling on it, and use it for informal 50 yard smallbore shooting.

They are a different metal finish. The receiver and magazines are parkerized or black oxide(parkerized IMO) while the barrel and various other parts are blued. Seems a little peculiar to me but the fit is good and the finish although it doesn't match is still well executed and given that they shoot so well I guess I can forgive forgive cost cutting measures that are more cosmetic than durability.

Congratulations, I picked a 452 up a few years ago and love it.

Four, five shot groups... some straggler:), and about 10 in the middle. I love the way this thing shoots.

I got a CZ 452 for my 18th birthday. It's one of the trainer models.

The other day we went to the range and I set it up with sandbags off a bench at 50 yards. I picked a hostage target (this one) http://www.karatemart.com/images/products/large/hostage-standoff-target-poster.jpg

THe first 5 shots, one was the bridge of the guy's nose, two were in the upper right eyebrow, one in the forehead, and one in his neck.

At 50 yards with only the stock (still very good) iron sights I was quite proud. 5 kill shots. Roughly 60 rounds later and although I pulled a few I hadn't hit the lady.

In the same time I went through those 60 rounds, my brother with his Ruger 10/22 probably went through 150 or so. Then he loaded up the M&P 15-22 and 25 rounds were gone like that :D

One thing I love about this rifle is that a $20 pack of 100 rounds kept a friend and I shooting for almost 2 hours at the range. Now that ammo's getting more reasonable that should be about half that.

Definitely want a scope and bipod, but my rifle is very sweet as is.

I really do love CZ. Waiting on their Bren series to be accepted for import and then I can have a full sporting line -- already have the CZ 75 so I'd just add the Bren, one of their semi auto 20 gauge shotguns, maybe a Czechmate, an SP-01 shadow, a RAMI, a 527, a large bore safari... you get the idea :p

Finally got my new CZ452 Ultra Lux (.22LR) to the range today.

Congratulations on a wise choice.

.22 caliber rifles are one of my weaknesses, so I have had to really apply myself to keep my collection small. For a long time, my BRNO#4 was my favorite and before I had children I regularly spent an afternoon hitting small items at 100 m or more. It was the most accurate rifle I regularly shot. I would guess that is a 10 pound rifle. It was clearly my favorite until I bought one of the first wave of the 452 ultra Lux.

Its appearance is weirdly long, thin and delicate, and its stock is not particularly well-suited to shooting with a scope. Yet, that very thin barrel will produce 100 m groups of less than 1 inch.

The rifle has two downsides. The first is the stock. That hogs back stock can be made more friendly with a tied on cheek riser. The other is that I bought the rifle new and it is so pretty and perfect that I would not like to expose it to field conditions that could mar it.

I am looking at buying a 452 Military Trainer. Only 22 I have handled that I really like (as well as the action setup)

Old eyes so need scope (I have a Leupold 22 Rimfire VX-I 2-7 x28 so that covered)

Whats the best scope mount for a reasonable price? (and works for that scope) I don't mind taking the rear sight off the 452 as I can't see those well anyway, would expect the lower the mount the better it lines up for shooting.

Or, what did you use, what was the cost and what components (adapter and rings, just rings or ???

There may not be an inexpensive option for you. If I recall correctly, BRNO/CZ have used at least three different rail widths on their rimfire receivers, 11 mm, 19 or 20 mm, or an intermediate 16mm that I do not recall seeing on anything other than a BRNO/CZ.

A couple of decades ago, I picked up a number four rifle only to find that required 16mm rings. The rifle itself was a steal at $225, but I recall the set of Millet rings being something like $50.

I think you need to measure the rail on your receiver.

I have a 2-7x32 on the lux and was able to use some pretty low rings. (I know that "low" isn't a measurement, but that was before I measured ring height in mm.)

Yep, I have vision issues. Old eyes that don't see iron sights very well.

Have the nice scope from another gun with another scope to replace it so all I need are a decent set of rings.

Very nice.
I've had the Ultra Lux idea on the back burner for many years now. Someday..

I have the Scout in .22lr and the Lux in .22wmr. They are the core of my rimfire guns, especially the sweet little Scout.

I would like to get an Ultra Lux and a couple bricks of standard velocity ammo and do some quiet plinking for about a year or two.

Here's my CZ452 American. When I noticed it was a lefty my wallet developed a mind of it's own! Great rifle.

Here a 50 yard group with it's favorite ammo.

Whats the ring setup? Looks like and adaptors then rings attached to the adators?

(Not sure if you were addressing this to me, the OP). Yes. Got a UTG adapter to add a Picatinny rail and then mounted conventional rings. Not sure that this is the best way to do it but I like having a Picatinny rail on the rifle. The setup works great.

It was PBCASTER I was asking (should have said) but I like hearing what people are doing and why.

Even better is the ID of the parts involved. I may not do it now but I do have a Pictincy Rail setup I can use. Also good for someone else looking to do that. I am amazed at how hard it is to get specific parts and use data sometimes for the setup you are going to use.

For me I think the lower the rings the better I am for what I want and as I will not use the irons I don't need to see them, so having the scope as low as possible and still work is the goal.

Nice to see my scope setup on the rifle I have. I like the looks of the MT sight, so being able to leave it on is a plus. I don't put looks over function, but if I can have both its bonus.
