Range costs getting expensive

Other ways

There are other ways to save on expenses.

I belong to an indoor range. I can pay $15 per hour, per person or I can pay $170 per year and shoot all I want. See if your range offers discounts for long term memberships.

I order my ammo for .40, 9mm,.45 auto, .45 LC, .44mag and .357 from the internet. Buying it at 500 rounds at a time for the .40 runs me about .14 a round. If I buy 1,000 rnds at a time, it runs less and I get free shipping. This is for target ammo and JHP is not much more. Any of it is name brand.

Look for sales at the internet sellers. A few times a year I will get an offer to purchase 10,000 rounds at a time and buying in bulk like that really saves.

You live in Oregon?? There is a LOT of open BLM and forest land in that state that should allow you the opportunity to shoot whatever you want at whatever range you want for as long as you want with no cost except gas and paper targets. I did the same thing in NV

Range getting expensive

We had a good indoor range for years that sold yearly memberships.
The range went out of business and a Security Company bought the building.
Now EVERYBODY pays $10 an hour to shoot. No memberships. The bad part of the deal is that the Security Guards have to pay the same $10 as everybody else.

Yep. I've been to an actual shooting range only twice in my life. The other countless times, it's all been out in the woods. Like I said:

It's why I prefer a nice, safe, wooded piece of public land. I provide my own targets, ammo, go as often as I like. As often as I go, I've probably saved thousands.

First every one should own a good 22 hand gun (or more) second reloading is a good skill to learn and will provid a lot of ammo and fun. You can go all the way and learn to cast bullets to really shoot cheep (if you scrounge our lead). The price of reloading components has gone up like every thing else but if you shop and buy in bulk there are savings to be had. The joke among hand loaders is that you don't save money you just shoot more. Good lick : Bill

When prices of ammo went crazy, I went out and bought a Ruger MK III and never looked back.

Good answer. I did the same thing, except with a P22. I dont shoot my 75B as much anymore because of increasing 9mm prices, so I put about 500 rds through my P22 every range session.

I bring my Ruger 22/45 every time I go to the range. I shoot it before switching to a 1911. I think it's great and with the price of .22lr being about 1/10 that of .45acp it's pretty hard to beat.

We have Douglas Ridge Rifle club out past Carver several miles. We have most anything you're likely to want. Rifle ranges to 1,000 yards, indoor range, Silhouette range which is used not only for silhouette but other competition as well. And more. To be a member right now is about 225.00. It's a 100 extra this year but I won't delve into that. Even at 225.00 you can shoot all you want. Go every day if you want.

There's also Tri Counties Gun club out past Tualiton with quite an assortment of options.

We have BLM land all over the place where you can shoot. Right now it's a good idea to have a 4 wheel drive in many places.
