Range arrest

Nyet Tovarich, you did what you thought was right under the circumstances, and did a good job to boot.

I would not want to be left alone with two apparent felons uncuffed presumably unsearched. My "wishlist" if I had to do it that way would be to clear the range and stretch them on the floor or at least sit them down. Wishes don't always come true and I wasn't there.

Sounds to me like you did a fine job. Remember, people kill with their hands. In God we trust, everybody else better keep their hands where we can see them.

Stay Safe --

One of the persons did not speak english and was from Mexico the other said he was from El Salvador which makes no differnce but they may not have been here legally
You did the right thing ;)

EDIT: This may need some clarification, so that people don't accuse me of being racist. I don't hate anyone based on the color of their skin, or their nationality. However, when it comes to Mexicans, Illegals more specifically, it really bothers me. It's tough living in a place where the white man is the minority, and everywhere you look you see Mexicans, and probably 40% of them are illegal.

I work on a small Auxiliary AFB in southern Arizona as civilian Security Forces, and our land just happens to be a MAJOR travel route for UDA's (Undocumented Aliens). We work very close to Border Patrol (Tuscon and Yuma sectors) and help them out a lot. If anyone has ever read "The Devils Highway", it talks about our range a lot in that book, and The Devils Highway runs just south of our Range. We get a lot of Marijuana haulers, and people haulers on our Range, and seeing the type of lives these people live, and bring to our country illegally really irks me. We had I believe 4 "Code Blacks" (dead bodies) on our Range last year (this is just what we found, there must be hundreds more). People who died from heat exhaustion and dehydration. And you know what? I don't feel bad for any of them. Does that make me a bad person? Maybe. But when you see it first hand, its a different story.

Someone bringing up the whole MS-13 thing is a good point. Did they have any tattoos that you recall? Ive read into the MS a lot, and after seeing and reading what I have, I never want to even come into contact with an MS-13 member. Id be too afraid he thought I was looking at him wrong and put out a hit on me

OP:
Job well done. Don't question your actions or instincts, unless it involves physical harm to an obviously innocent person... These guys were obviously questionable.

The range master blew it in the begining. I asked him to call the local sheriff . If that was done from the begining the SWAT officer would not have been envolved and I woulden't have to pull guard duty until they got there. One of the things that concerned me is the fact we have so many gangs in L.A. and still growing and I was concerned that these could be members or be testing them so they could start selling them to gang/criminal types. We are also at war, post 911 should keep us a little more alert to whats going on around us. Yes I was very lucky that these guys did not have additional guns or other types of weapons on them as it could have ended badly. My whole idea was get the local leo's there .I just wanted to be the reporting party/witness and not make contact with the bad guys. IM former Marine infantry and hold a number of blackbelts as well as having been to hundrers of post certified training but as we know their is no subsitution for good judgement. We pay law enforcement to do this job and if done right from the start I would'ent have been envolved. Be safe.:D

...I called a line brake and took the guns from the two suspect while they were putting their targets out...

Personally I wouldn't have touched the weapons. I don't mind explaining the intricacies of the NFA to other shooters, but attempting to confiscate them that is a whole other story and you could have found yourself in a situation that could quickly escalate.

If the weapons were needed to be taken away you should have let the SWAT officer handle it. Theoretically you could have been charged with possession of an unregistered firearm, even if they were legal, as soon as they are out of the control of the owner they are considered unregistered because they are only registered to the owner.

Gotta Be A Gag, Like The Mall Ninjas!

Firstly, real LEOs never work with rentacops/security guards.

You expect me to believe that real cops walked away from a freebee felony beef? AND left them in a rentacops custody?

Where's the BS meter smilie?

Good for you, ESI.

---

Lots of on the job types would pass the duty to patrol given the situation. Nothing hinky soounding about it at all.

I had a hard time believing this was real too, between the bad grammer/spelling, self important posturing and mall ninja attitude it seemed a little far fetched. There really are people that roll that way.

I have to remind myself sometimes that the internet is full of imposters, posers, and wannabes, and that there are plenty of losers that will make up or exaggerate a situation in order to justify their self aggrandizement and self image.

Personally I think that every illegal that gets locked up makes the country better, and the same thing for people that may be technically legal but refuse to assimilate.

A member here has been PM'ing me about this and implying that I'm a rascist because I think that you can identify people who are more likely to be illegals by their looks and demeanor. That's not rascist, that's common sense. I could tell you who is more likely to be a cop or have a military background too, people give off signs and the astute observor picks up on them.

I think the two men discussed here should be treated differently than someone that appears to be a law abiding citizen.

When I'm on the range I pay attention to the folks around me shooting, and think that someone that is giving out the vibe of being a criminal deserves scrutiny and a couple of questions, possibly followed by a suggestion to leave. However, if a fat moron in a security guard uniform starts giving me crap about my weapons I'm not going to worry about hurting his feelings when I tell him to mind his own business when I tell him to get out of my face, and if he took my guns he'd be looking at having his teeth kicked in when I take them back.

Maybe they do things different in California, but that's how it works around here.

the deal

gus are very hard to come by in latin america and ammo extremely expensive. it is not unheard of for gang and mafia members from latin america to come to america and train with differant weapons here, and take back that experience to the battleground back in thier countries. great job and we all need to keep our eyes more open.:(

Amazing you dont here about this in the media. if 2 law abiding americans with legel silencers commited a crime, you can be sure it would make headlines. we dont want to make the wet-backs look bad though

First I was not working, I was at the range shooting as a member ,as a member IM also put on line as the acting range master to work the line. So their was no rent a cops at the location. I like the term "Rent a Cop" A private person is not a COP theirfore he or she cannot be a rent a cop thats a term that is used by people who don't think for themselves. A rent a cop is an off duty COP who is working security. When law enforcement personal work as security guards you are renting cops and often times they are comtracted by the mall to give extra protection. The movie industry hires retired/active law enforcement to work security and they are in fact renting their services and they are cops so use your insight. As for the incident that was posted "Don't hate" It is what it is. :D And as far as insulting someone on the net it is usually done in poor taste and lacks testicle fortuted when not done in their presence.

the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

I think the fact that they weren't Americans is a big difference. If they were Americans I'd say that they were exercising their constitutional right to keep and bear arms

Does that right only apply to americans? The 2nd amendment says:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

I don't mind who you are and where you come from as long as you're a good guy. And I don't care where you come from if you'r a bad guy.

Yes, I believe it was meant to apply just to Americans. The opening statement of the Preamble to the Constitution says "We the people of The United States of America." Not "We the people of Mexico who are living in America illegally."

If you want to enjoy the rights and freedoms that are part of being a citizen of this country, then the least you should expect to have to do is actually become a citizen of it.

uh-huh

First of all off course this only applied to Americans, otherwise the Declaration of Independence, would have been followed by an American conquest of the world.

Second of all “good guys” usually don’t break the law as these guys were. I personally believe that a lot of the laws (not just gun laws) infringe on my personal rights under the constitution but,

A. I am not paid to interpret, or change those laws and:

B. unless I am ready to take up arms to change these laws(which I am not) I had better be LAW ABIDING GOOD GUY, and obey them like everyone else. Otherwise I fully deserve the Swat team to be waiting for me at my shooting station next time I come back from a target change.

Since you're asking for opinions, I don't believe you should have touched another person's guns while they were downrange. It could have turned nasty if they saw you doing it, and had other weapons with them, as I always do when I go downrange and have left something back at the line.

You should have left it to real LEOs. You didn't know for a fact they were doing anything illegal. They could have had homemade barrel stabilizers for all you knew.

im with root canal.....enough people get hassled just for OLL here, they arent letting anybody even close to being associated with silencers go. and if you are the LEO, you arent letting them out of your sight period. Just doesnt make sense. Name the range, I would like to give them a call also.

You know, his story may be full of holes, and I have my doubts as to whether or not its true. Im voting for not, but then again, who am I to judge, and who cares really? Everyone on the internet tries to be something theyre not. People act much tougher, smarter and talk more sh*t on the internet than they do in person, because its so much easier. I take the story for what it is, and thats a good lesson, whether it was true or not. The only person who will ever know if the story is true is the thread starter, unless of course, he wants to tell us hes lying :D

I have to agree with rootcanal on this one. I'm having lots of trouble convincing myself the story isn't fabricated.
