Racking The Slide.

Here is one I noticed. In the movie UNFORGIVEN,with Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman. Richard Harris plays an English gunfighter for hire who is supposedly one bad dude. Gene Hackman is the town sheriff who is trying to enforce a "no gun" town ordinance. Gene knows Harris is carrying after the Englishman brushes of a deputy. He also knows who he is and how dangerous the man is. Hackman ambushes Harris coming out of a building with several of his men pointing winchester lever guns at the gunfighter. He demands the Englishman's guns and a tense situation insues. At one point the deputies to demonstrate their resolve actually throw the levers on their winchesters to ACTUALLY CHAMBER A ROUND !!! They were holding this real BG at gunpoint with EMPTY WEAPONS!!!!I would have expected better from Eastwood who directed this film. He did win the 1992 Best Picture Academy Award for mosty its' realism.

Off topic, but did anyone notice in The Unforgiven when Clint Eastwood ups with a Spencer carbine, works the lever, pulls the trigger, realizes that a Spencer doesn't work that way, and then cocks the hammer. You have to be quick to notice it, but that's what happened.

And James Bond once dove behind a couch with his trusty Walther PPK and came up with a Browning 1910 with a fake silencer.

Maybe all actors were trained in handgun use by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF)as they carry their pistols with an empty chamber. IDF are trained to rack the slide before going into action. Other than that, it looks neat in a movie. In one of the Beverly Hills Cop movies Eddie Murphy was able to shoot a Browning High-Power with the hammer down. Regards, Richard.

I have noticed that in many movies\TV the actors keep opening their revolvers to check their ammo. Any LEO had better know if his weapon is loaded or not. Same for the homeowner. We all must remember its HOLLYWOOD!

It drives my long suffering wife to distraction when I pick a movie apart due to gun goofs or historical errors. But what the heck if I do'nt correct them, how are they gonna know that they are screwing up by the numbers. Besides whats the use of knowing all this trivial info, if you can't use it from time to time. :) ...7th
