Racism and the RKBA ... what connection?

Lately I've noticed a number of veiled and not-so-veiled references to racism in relation to the RKBA.

There as a recent essay in the Miami Herald that alluded to racism in a number of areas. And, today I read some of Rosie's comments on TFL, where she said something like 'the NRA doesn't care about anyone other than white people and Republicans'.

Am I just more sensitive to this lately, or is there an upsurge in this disgusting attempt to equate racism with the RKBA? I find it ironic, since so many gun control laws were racist in origin. Even some of the terms, such as 'Saturday Night Special' were originally racial slurs in essence.

Anyone else notice this lately? Is the anti-self defense movement so desperate that they need to reach for the race card? Seems like one heck of a reach from my perspective.

For that matter, do TFL members 'of color' see any such relationship?

Methinks they are opening a can of worms. Here's a perfect chance for the pro-gun side to work in the anti-gun laws that disarmed the blacks and make them helpless against the white trash in the MidWest and South.

I remember reading somewhere (no source, dammit) that once the blacks started arming themselves, the bigots pulled in their horns. They were reduced to putting Christmas tree Xs at the bottom of the crosses, setting them on fire, dropping them in the yard, and then running like Hell before the gunfire started. Even that soon stopped.

Some Klan idiots held a cross-burning rally next to a black guy's property. He than held a barbecue and invited all the brothers and their families, asking them to come armed. The presence of all those guns put a definite damper on the rally and it broke up early.

I agree it's a sign of desperation, "We need something, ANYTHING, to inflame the public."

Pro-RKBA people want everyone, of all races, creeds and origins, to be armed. Hardly a view conductive to KKK-style activities.

Various totalitarians all eager to protect fuzzy-wuzzies and leeeeeetle people from themselves, on the other hand...racists who'd deny RKBA to all, but to the poor and underprivileged first.

Further, early 1920s Rosewood pogroms against blacks were met with armed resistance. That had put the brakes on further attacks on Blacks there (unlike Chicago pogroms where less resistance was offered).

Need I remind you gentlemen that the Sullivan Law, in New York, was to keep guns away from those stupid, drunken Irishmen?

Gun Control is an attempt to disarm those you fear so that you can better force your will upon them.

WHAT ARE THE GUN BANNERS TRYING TO FORCE UPON US???

It is clear that the RKBA benefits all folks as one can defend themselves. The NRA has a history of aiding some minorities in this endeavour.

Unfortunately, it is the case that the RKBA cause sometimes attracts folks that are racist. On tx.guns, it is common to get bombarded with anti-semitic postings linking Jews to gun control. It is happening right now.

Homophobic is also common, a thread was recently shut down because of some raving lunatic.

We did a thread about Mexicans that I personally e-mailed a moderator about because of its content.

I went to a gun show and see patches on sale like:

Kill ALL fags DEAD!
If I knew they were going to ban slaves, I would have bought some!

So the vast majority of gun owners are strong, decent folk - one can't ignore that we sometimes attract these cancerous types.

It is true that gun control laws were racist in origin. However, when the laws started to apply to folks who weren't minorities - then the **** hit the fan.

Similar analysis of drug laws - very tough laws on marijuana when it was in the ghetto.
When "nice" kids got busted, it was decriminalized in some places.

Studies of minority groups show that they have lower rates of gun ownership and less likely to support the RKBA. This also can be explained but I've used up my professor rhetoric for today.

To summarize - that's the issue - a subsection of folks who push the RKBA who are also clearly racist.

It is something we have to fight against, it usually is put down strongly here and on other moderated groups. However, the appearance is a concern. I know a NRA Federal lobbyist who cringes when such types do a homophobic or racist presentation or act. It makes their job harders.

The battle over the Second Amendment will be won in the minds of the neutral, mainstream masses. To them racists are white, male, and predominantly blue collar. So are gun owners, in their minds.

Change the stereotype. The NRA's strategy of opening the NYC NRA center touches on this. Ask yourself the following: "What can I do to change this negative stereotype?"

All good posts, above. It's ironic for RKBA to be considered racist when the laws banning guns were first enacted after the civil war to keep blacks from arming themselves.

Fred J. asks what the gun banners want to force on us. I think it's that they want to take AWAY from us what property we have earned and give (or "redistribute") it to someone more pitiful and/or deserving in their eyes.

Erik has a great idea.

I would argue for the NRA to put out ads with women and minorites who have defended themselves. Show mixed ethnicity at the shooting sports.
www.salon.com recently had a very good article on gays and the need for armed self-defense.

I vaguely remember seeing something on tv/video about how one of the early heads of the KKK went to d.c. to lobby for gun registration. It would make a great counter argument to the race card playing anti-gunners. I just can't remember where I saw it!

The term "Saturday Night Special" is a watered down version of "N----- Town Saturday Night Special," the inexpensive handguns blacks could buy after the Civil War to defend themselves from the early KKK. These inexpensive handguns were prohibited by post-Civil War Jim Crow laws.

Visit JPFO and check out "Ask the Rabbi". He deals with the Palastinians RKBA.

Every Human has the RKBA.

No Human has the Right to offer violence to anyone.

BTW, RKBA activist (NRA Members) have been portrayed as Rednecks in political cartoons for years

I try to judge people one at a time. Call me what you will but a**holes are an equal opportunity employer that employees all colors and races. Some of you need to spend some more time taking a good hard look at who is running the executive branches of our government. Some can't form a legible sentence let alone administer Billion dollar programs of enticement. Take a look at who overwhelmingly supports Bill no matter what! Ok Rant off. So we have a few racist in our midst. At this juncture I don't give a ratsa** who they are if they know how to use a gun and advocate for our rights. Time to teach us red-necks to wear golf outfits, change out of the cammo when demonstrating. But when the sh*t hits the fan I want the red-necks,KKK,LLL, X Militia on my side. The real issue of racism in the RTBKA is that of a government taking away the basic right of a human being by outlawing the cheap guns for people who can barely afford that. Why don't those who can afford to spend more on a gun, set up a foundation to give better quality gun? Course they'll have to pass that pesky federal cr*p first!

sumabich,
The KKK and their ilk are collectivists.

As Ayn Rand observed, "Racism is the crudest, most primitive form of collectivism."

These people ARE NOT our allies.

Sumabitch - those a**holes once tried to do me in. When the revolution comes led by the KKK, go to a plastic surgeon and do the reverse Michael Jackson and join your troops.

There are more rights than the RKBA and I'll be damned if I support bigotry just to support the RKBA.

The RKBA is part of the total package of human rights. Others are not sacrificed for it.

I saw a special once on racism and the Black Panthers.
It was on Discovery or something, nothing to do with guns.

But anyway, they showed footage of how the Black Panthers found Police brutality in the San Francisco/Oakland area. The Black Panthers looked into the law and found that it was legal for them to carry rifles.

So, the Black Panthers started following the cops around in their cars, all toting shotguns! They would drive around behind the cops and make sure the cops were not brutalizing people.

Well, you can bet that that came to a halt damn fast. Cops did not appreciate people with shotgun legally following them around.
So, San Fran/Oakland outlawed guns in public.

You can see the racism here. You can also understand the fear. But, it seems that no one had any problems with people carrying guns in public until BLACK people started arming themselves, and then it was outlawed lickity split.

The minute minorities start arming themselves, that is when you see gun control enacted damn fast.

The topic of "Racism and the Right to Keep and Bear Arms" provides a truly splendid example of how ignorant the "antis" are. Please consider the following rationale (all estimates and calculations are conservative):

Q1: What is the worst example of racism in history?
A1: Without doubt, the Nazi's genocide of European Jews.

Q2: Would widely held arms have precluded the holocaust?
A2: Probably. Let us premise six million victims, with only one-sixth of Europe's Jewish citizens armed. Let us further presume that each of the million-armed Jews is able to wound only one German soldier, with a 33 percent death rate. That is an additional million casualties and 333,333 more dead German soldiers. It is unlikely that any state engaged in a "to the death" world war would -- or could -- sustain a million extra casualties, due to exceptionally adverse ramifications to their war fighting capabilities.

Therefore, I believe Hitler -- if confronted with brave, well-armed, well-trained, and strongly defensive European Jews -- would have had to alter his genocidal policies. Perhaps the Nazis would have developed some equally horrific approach. However, it is also possible that they would have simply forced Europe's Jewish citizens to emigrate, rather than sustain an additional million casualties to their prime fighting-force (clearly over-taxing their medical facilities, further depleting their economy, and decimating their military force structure).

In essence, highly motivated/courageous, trained, and armed individuals sustain freedom and emasculate tyranny.

Donna Dees-Thomas or whatever her name is of MMM fame admitted she didn't become concerned about guns until the school shootings affected the white suburban neighborhoods. She was met with great cheers for showing her concern.

How F#$%@# up is that?

The sick answer is that it's F#@#$% up enough to work.

Just another example of people feenking for themselves. (Love that word! So versitle)
