R51 ever going to happen???

I really really want one of these. ( A working one of course)

Man I hope they can get this to work. Seems like the perfect 9mm compact if it works.
I have put off a couple 9mm compact purchases waiting for this one.
I know... I should have my head examined.

Vaporware????

I waqs excited about the gun until I got my hands on one in a gun shop. It felt rough, and just did not feel like a quality piece. I will be keeping my eye out for the 2nd gen r51s, but I'm not holding my breath (or my wallet).

Ok I did a little searching. Details are few and very very far between.
But at: http://r51pistol.com/index.php

I found this tidbit. Posted July 8th of this year. Thats all we get though is tidbits.

this just in...

Remington Support
Service Ticket Response

Mr. T3..............
We sincerely apologize for the extended delay in the manufacturing and shipping of the R51. With the move to the new facility in Huntsville, AL there were several delays in getting this new plant up and running, therefore causing another delay.
We have been told the R51 is going into production in August and hopefully will be shipping out late September.

Because of this additional delay Remington is offering to refund your money if you will send in your receipt.

Again, our sincerely apologies.
Best regards,
Consumer Services

Thank you and best regards,
Remington Customer Services

I responded that I have waited this long, what is another few months.

Anxiously waiting a few more months,
T3

Some dead horses or guns need to rest eternally! This appears to fit the required happening here! :d

I know.... But...

If they do send them out again. I bet they work.
It would be a disaster of epic proportions if they released another lemon on the 2nd try.

My only real worry is they are going to find out they cant produce them at the quality level they need at the price point they had set.

It would be a great gun at the $380 price point. At a $580 price point.

Nope I would buy some thing else.

I wanted one when they first came out but I sure as hell wasn't gonna be a beta tester. Simply don't know why anyone at this point would purchase a R51 when or should say IF they come back. Its being a year since the recall and still no word. Ill stick with my Shield and MP9C.

I am anxiously waiting the return of the R1 and will surely purchase one when available. Heck i would purchase one of the flawed ones if available just to adorn the safe with a fresh ( although initally flawed) design. Once the kinks are out it should be an interesting shooter.

When Remington first announced they were going to make a R51 and pictures of it were released . . . I didn't care for it that much . . .

Then . . the more I looked at it . . it began to "grow on me"" and I began to think . . . "I really want one of these!"

Then . . . when the productions tarted and all you heard was the problems and poor quality . . . well . . . I felt bad for Remington . . . a company with a long history in this country . . .

Then. . . as time went by and it was obvious that Remington couldn't get their act together . . . I said "Forget it."

Now . . all I can say is "I really love my S & W 9mm Shield" and "why didn't I buy two of them?". :D:roll eyes:

As far as I'm concerned . . . Remington "shot themselves in the foot". But that's just my humble opinion. :)

I'm sure if they get it right and make it right by those who bit the first time, all will be forgiven. Done right, it would be a helluva gun.

I have zero expectation for it to be done right the second time around. Remington of today is NOT the same Remington of yesteryear. Freedom Group has driven them into the ground. Even the venerable 870's and 700's have gone way, way down in quality. Brand new guns being covered in surface pitting is not uncommon.

I would not hold my breath.

R51 ever going to happen???

Maybe

At this point, though, I've upgraded my KT PF9 to an XDS. I've got that size category 9 covered very weil.

I only make one exception to my rule to never buy Remington products. For example I just purchased a very clean 870 wingmaster produced in 1983. Any product with the Remington name has to be old enough not have the current cost cutting management fingerprints on the surface.

Remington (freedom group) has been ruining good companies and great firearm designs for awhile now. The real turning point for Remington quality was introduction of the express line. I don't even buy Remington ammunition.

just my opinion of course.

I talked to a shop owner in Northern Missouri last week that has 3 of them supposedly being replaced. He was given that same September time frame when he contacted Remington.
I still want one if they get the problems solved without jacking the price through the roof.

Good luck to Remington but they missed the boat on this one already. There are already way to many quality pistols (S&W Shield, Springfield XDS, Walther PPS, Glock 43 and even a Kel-Tec) that fill the same role as the R51 and is a proven level of performance and quality levels that people are already comfortable with. To convince me to even try an R51, the price would have to be half price minimum compared to the competition and with the already low prices the competition already sells at, that's going to be VERY cheap price on an R51. To get the price down that low, I'd be leery of how many corners were cut and what the quality would be like. Nope, no R51 for me.

So, if Remington doesn't make anymore R51's are the ones that are out there tomorrow's Bren Ten's....or Rogaks?

Not exactly. Have you ever handled one before the recall? One of the major features to the design is the light recoil spring needed. Leading to an exceptionally easy to rack slide for those who have physical difficulties.
While that is not the reason I want one, it is a viable point to at least keep trying.
Walther is attempting to reach the same goal, the CCP, but some reports say they are facing functioning difficulties of their own.
While my desire to own an R51 isn't based on the reduced effort to rack the slide, I did like the feel of the ones I handled pryor to the recall.

Easy to rack the slide be damned, if it doesn't work and as been demonstrated on the Military Arms Channel to even be unsafe! If physical hand strenght is that much of an issue, limp wristing malfunctions are likely to be another issue as well. In those cases, the shooter would be better served with a revolver where there is no issues with racking anything and is impervious to limp wristing stoppages.

Easy to rack the slide be damned
But that is the main marketing niche they are going for. Along with Walther and their CCP. Just like Chiappa with their ridiculous looking upside down revolver targets people who are afraid of recoil. There is a very large market of new gun buyers to tap that haven't grown up shooting, and don't understand that recoil is part of the game. Gun makers are just trying to fill that need.
I still hope Remington gets the bcause of the problems worked out without having to increase the price of the R51 too much. But meeting a price point has been rumored as the cause. Suposedly, the prototypes worked great, and the problems showed up after marketing made manufacturing changes.
