R 51

Second trip to range with R51

Finally got to shoot the little Rem again, and I like it better now than before. 94 rounds fired, 44 of Privi Partisan 115 fmj and 50 Federal. (The other 6 rounds were through a PPQ, just to compare a little.)

The R51 ran flawlessly, and worked great at 10 yards for quick shooting. I'm not great with any pistol, I was merely trying to hit as quickly as I could, and in three strings of full magazines kept all rounds in the black on 6" Shoot and See targets.

I mentioned comparing the PPQ: the Rem, in my hands, isn't as accurate. That 5" PPQ is outstanding. Still, the R51 was fun, solid, has a good trigger, and is well on the way to being an outstanding little gun.

My R51 might be the only gun I have that I put a CT Laserguard on. Just for grins because it's design looks like it should have one on it. LOL:D

I took a chance and put one on layaway yesterday. I like trying guns that have a shall we say, mixed reputation, on the internet and I've always had good luck with them. A Kel-Tec P-11, a High Point 9mm, Smith & Wesson SD9VE, Taurus revolvers, and so on. I thought this one looked interesting.

Remington has sent me two new magazines for my new r51. Again, they can't be loaded with 7 rounds, the first nosedives and won't chamber. When loaded with 4 or less rounds it will chamber but stovepipe every other round fired. This gun is in reliable at best, but unsafe for sure. My advice is to stay away from them. Remington needs to pull this gun off the market yet again I'm afraid

But when you realize that, it crumbles a lot of conservative ideas about what is wrong with America. It's still true that all the consolidations of gun companies is for stock price. But hey, whateves right? It's just a few evil people instead of an entire market system.

You do realize, wild cat, that without that market system you seem to demonize, there'd be only Government arms makers? Nobody else would have the capital necessary to do any large scale manufacturing of existing designs nor attempt any innovations at all.

There are other places with other systems, you know ....even ones without any sort of Market Economy at all ..... Venezuela, for instance ..... you are free to go to that utopia any time you wish .... I'd advise taking some food and drinking water and toilet paper, since those seem to be in short supply there, as I understand it.

Count your blessings, Mr. mccane. Good Day, Sir.

Glockgreat23, Unsafe? Lots of folks reported firing many rounds of ammo here ( myself included) and had no safety issues. My R 51 is designed with a safety and it works quite well, my magazines now all fire without malfunction and the one with difficulty was never a safety issue. I’m sure Remington is not interested in your advise to pull the pistol from the market.

Well, for what it's worth, I went ahead and picked up the one I had on layaway. Nice, solid feeling good looking gun. I like it.

I took it to the range this morning and put about 80 rounds, through it, with no problems at all. Ammo was mostly 115 grain ball, most of it commercial reloaded "range ammo" and the rest was my reloads, about even between 115 Berry's plated RN, and Hornady 115 XTP HP.

I didn't shoot it any worse than I do any other 9mm.

Not a very scientific test, but I'm happy with it so far.

Got the R51 back from Remington repair. There was a note with the gun saying the gunsmith had adjusted the magazines! they also said they adjusted the breach block. I pulled the slide back and the damn thing hung up half way back just like it had before I sent it off. I took it to the range and I could still not get it to load more than 4 rounds in the mag before it would have a failure to load. I will contact Remington once again but I don't what is left to be done. Guess I am screwed. No more Remington.

I pulled the slide back and the damn thing hung up half way back just like it had before I sent it off.
Of the three R51s I've handled, two of them had a definite "step" in the slide travel as the breech block unlocked. It felt like the slide was stopping half way open.

When you reach that spot where you feel like the slide "hangs up", have you tried continuing to pull back firmly to see if it will start moving again?

(I'm not trying to tell you there's nothing wrong with your gun, just pointing out something I noticed in the hopes it might help.)

Mine doesn't have nearly as pronounced a "step" as the other two, but it still needs to be racked "with authority" to function well.

I would say I hope you can get it to work to your satisfaction, because I really enjoy shooting mine, but I also understand your reluctance to spend any more time or resources on it.

Still very pleased with my R51. Most recent trip ran sig v crown, Hornady Critical Duty and another that escapes me. No problems. Accurate. Fun.

Today, my rebate arrived.

Sure hope I haven't driven Big Green out of business.

Good to hear. I ended up purchasing the rm380 in mid January and like you, have been very pleased with the pistol. I'm expecting my rebate any day. I've run 7 different fmj's and 2 different HP's in the 380 and PPU has been the least accurate, but all have functioned well. My pistol prefers I use the slide release over slingshotting when HP's are concerned.
