S&W made 'THE' finest revolver, ever, when they made the 5/681. Shamefully they did not make them long enough, or in great enough numbers. But that is just my opinion.
As much as I would love to say the model 27 with three and a half inch barrel, I think by definition it would have to be the Military and Police, pretty much everything else is just a variation of it,
