Question on Ruger - the pistols and the politics.

Will, you lost me there... Please explain to me what's wrong with condition one carry (with one in the chamber, as everyone else defines it), and what makes it unsuitable for a new pistolero? RH said he will "soon be in the market for a first pistol," but I don't see him prefacing with "I'm an utter moron who cannot learn and follow four simple rules." Big difference, no? ;)

I have to agree on the money issue - Ruger's definitely the best bang for the buck. Considering the (asinine) restriction to ball ammo, I'd have to recommend the Ruger (in .40 or .45) over the CZ if one plans on defensive use.

Slickpuppy: The answer to both questions is not yet. :D

I will be the first to say that the CZ is a world-class weapon price or no price. I still am leary of someone who is completely new to the world of shooting starting with a pistol whereby the thumb is used to ride the hammer down once the first round has been chambered. With the Ruger, chamber the round sweep the decocker down and buttaboom; buttabing, you're good to go.

I am not doubting the abilities of RH and I am certainly not implying that he is a moron or anyone else on the forum for that matter. I am merely trying to cover a base that no one covered for me. He may find that he is completely comfortable with the CZ. In the final analysis, he would be well-served to go to a full-service range and try both on for size.

BTW, I am also a staunch defender and supporter of: Marlin,Benelli,Remington,Beretta and Breakfree just to name a few. :D

Although Ruger designs are very good and work just fine if produced in accordance to the specs, I have some feeling that quality of recent Ruger pistols seem to drop a bit in comparison with 5-6 years ago. My second
MK II I bought 2 years ago was probably put together with a hammer, and I was literally forced to use a hammer to disassemble it for cleaning first time. It also jammed from time to time. But I did fix it, of course.. On the other hand, my first Ruger MKII (1994) never gave me any trouble, and also GP161 revolver I own was perfect right out of the box. I feel that CZ-75B for $350 (or so) is much better made and also looks very elegant.

I just bought a used Ruger Security Six - 4" barrel .357 - I think it would make a great first gun for home defense. You can shoot either .38's or .357 out of it. It is built like a tank. I probably gave a little too much for mine $180, because it has a little wear on the bluing and some drag marks on the cylinder, but the trigger is GREAT. Bore is shiny. It had someones initials on the inside of the grip and the date (1974) - It has seen some use but was well cared for by an elderly man who sold it to my local gunshop. You reall can't go wrong with a well built revolver like an older Ruger or Smith. The Rugers are cheaper and probably stronger. I think the trigger is just as good as most Smiths that I've tried. Semi-autos are cool, but there is something to be said for a simple DA revolver. Especially for a new shooter.

Ruger is a great company, and has made some of the best firearms in the world. The guns made are high quality, dependable, rugged, sounds like a Chevy truck commerical doesnt it? And as for what Bill Ruger told to congress, we all make mistakes, that why they put erasers on pencils. And he also did "erase" that remark by apologizing for it. He seems like an alright guy. And he didnt sell the hell out of the american peoples freedom like another company that I wont mention here...

mrblonde,
Sorry, ruger did sell out the american people because of his greed. Unfortunately, some of the dim bulbs in this forum refuse to acknowledge that.

Anyone who owns a Sig or Glock and calls me a Dim Bulb is using a double standard.

Glock is initiating ballistic fingerprinting which is a sophisticated method of registration. Sig is pushing the smart gun envelop very hard. Anything electronic can be manipulated by external forces--------just what the Doctor ordered for those who purpose to deprive us of the RKBA. Both of these companies are motivated by the potential financial gain. If we excoriate Ruger and not Glock or Sig, what has been accomplished in our struggle?

The "you don't need to worry about ballistic fingerprinting unless you're a criminal dog" does not hunt here. For the time being,we are still innocent until proven guilty.

All of us need to keep in mind that if we had not allowed the dope-smoking, draft-dodging, socialists to take over our government none of this would have happened.

Hmm, lets see. If you made a statement that caused some problems, then you admitted your error, apologized, and then gave one Million dollars to the foremost organization that fights to right the wrong your comment made, then you make statements on your web site that are consistent with your apology, I would probably feel that you had done some significant pennance and give you another chance. However, it would be only one more chance . . .

What more do we expect from Ruger?
