My local gunshop has a used but in good condition CVA Rem 44 with steel frame for $140. I know CVA no longer makes this particular model, so will I be able to substitute Pietta parts in the event it breaks down? Should i just stay away from it and buy a Pietta or Uberti? Thanks for your help.

CVA never made anything, they were/are an importer. I know their single shots were imported from Spain and so were some of their revolvers. I do know if it also has Traditions logo on it it's a good chance it's a Pietta. I've seen a few of those. If it's an ASM Pietta parts can be made to work but they're not a drop in fit.

hawg, doc, +1, i'm with doc, he'll take less, put a $100 or so on the counter. like doc said he's probably not got much in it. plus most people won't want a bp, no real demand in most places:eek:. so he got it in a trade or pawn, either way, he'll take alot less.
cva, traditions are importers, made by pietta. don't know if asm sold any to cva.

Doc,

I offered $100, and settled for $110, and walked out with a very decent Navy Arms Rem 44 with a steel frame! I unlocked the loading lever and found out it's a Uberti made gun. I'm in the process of repolishing the brass trigger guard, refinishing the grip, and I'll post pics of my "diamond in the rough" in the morning. The bore is as shiny as a new coin. Except for some exposed metal in high friction areas, the gun is real good condition. Membership to this forum is already paying dividends for me. Thanks.

Nice deal.

I have gotten what I consider my two best deals from pawn shops. Problem is, you can't find any around here that has any BP revolvers.

For $110, and a couple of hours of work on the trigger guard, grip, and retouching exposed metal parts, it's not a bad deal.

Nice lookin pistol for it's age. It was a good deal too.

The polishing on the trigger guard is to be expected.

After some of the garbage I have seen come from CVA, I am suprised to hear of an Uberti with their stamp on it!
Uberti's are nice guns, usually very well finished.
I have a CVA '51 Police kit from ASM that won't even allow the cylinder to turn with caps on it. Pure junk! It is a nice $89 Wall Hanger though...
Sounds like you really got a GOOD deal with that one!
Enjoy it!

The title of the thread was misleading about it being a CVA. In post #10, hongrn stated that this revolver is marked Navy Arms/Uberti and not CVA.

Just because Uberti starts with a vowel does not mean you use 'an' before it. It is a name and thus does not follow that rule. Being a former instructor, it irks me to see that usage in post after post. I'm not picking on you ZVP, because you are not the first or the last person to do that. It's just that I see it so often. Lesson ended.

If we speak English, we should write it correctly. If you want to use 'pig' Latin......well it shows your level of education. BTW, any time someone wants to deride someone else, they use the 'Nazi' card. Ja wohl, mein Führer!

I don't speak English. I'm not in England. I speak Southern American with a dash of backwoods redneck.:D
