Question of reloading the CM 6.5

I think I4451 is equivalent to 4350 with temp stability and cleaners.

I can't get it in 8 lb jugs though.

I noticed this as well when I resized my 6.5 Hornady brass to 6mm vs the once fired Hornady brass 6mm . I thought it was the neck down process but perhaps it could be the different Chambers putting this own "fingerprint" on the brass. I would think that FL reaize wouldn't allow this but maybe someone more experienced then either one of us could comment?

Hard telling what you rifle will like until you try it. For 308 case's I like 4064, Varget, R-19, H414, H 4350 and IMR 4350. The powders I like in the 308 are about this speed but then some a bit faster too, 30 cal bullet's. In my 243's I like H4350, H414, Varget. Seem's they all work. About all your changing is bullet size, 6.5 CM case is about the same size as the 308 if I heard right.

I've gone through two 8-lb jugs of IMR4451.
Got them both through Brownell's - both were ordered on separate 1 cent Hazmat fee offers.

I also just got an 8-lb jug of IMR 4350 from them with the same kind of offer.

The 8-lb jugs are available, just probably not available in your local store.

I use R17 behind 120 gr Nosler BT’s and get terrific accuracy. That said, i’m sure I’d be perfectly happy with H4350, which I couldn’t find when I started working up loads for that bullet.

Behind 100 gr bullets I use IMR4064, also with great accuracy.

I also tried RL 17 with 120 grn Btips, but I was testing them before my barrel came around, I'm going to revisit my data and go forth with more testing.

When I first got my 6.5CM, I had some Varget on hand which I use to load for my 308, so I tried it. It was OK, but nothing really jumped out at me.

I was able to find some H4350 locally and worked up a load and that is now my go to powder. I have shot the 140gr in Sierra MK, Hornady Match and Hornady ELD Match. All performed well but the Hornady groups seem a bit tighter, so I am using those.

Right now my pet load for my 6.5 CM is 41.8g H4350 pushing a Hornady 143g ELDX at 2790fps with a SD of 9.86 (this is based off a 10 shot chrono using a LabRadar) and loaded to 2.208” base to ogive.

Have not had the opertunity to push the distance on this load yet, should get to do that in a few weeks, I’ll try to report back my results.
