Question for those carrying the 9mm

I've read in several places lately that ammunition development has brought the 9x19 to the point that it is a serious contender compared to the other top carry rounds.
I'd like to hear from those who carry the 9mm and learn what load you carry for personal defense.
Any supporting information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Not looking for a cartridge debate, as that has played out so often. Just want to hear the reasoning for your choosing the 9mm.

Thanks
Ken

The 9x19 is indeed a very capable round to depend on; there's a reason its the most widely used cartridge in the world.

Personally, I carry a .45ACP or a magnum revolver, but I have no qualms over the 9mm. Its just not what I'm used to and I see no reason to change now. That being said, if I had only a 9mm with quality ammo, I'd not be concerned, beyond my lack of familiarity with it anyway.

As for ammo, any self-defence ammo from the top manufacturers would do well, provided it feeds reliably in your particular firearm.

I carry a KT P-11 with Federal Expanding Full Metal Jacket 124gr. The reason being that I get reliable feeding (HP's can be erratic in some semi's absent some polishing) and still get expansion comparable to that of HP's.

I carry G17. Use it for everything -edc,hd,range, outdoors ... On the range -whathever is cheeper-wwb, umc., federal ... For SD, HD, edc - 147 gr. Federal tactical jhp hst2. Outdoors 147 gr. fmj. That's it about me ...

147gr ranger T series or 124 +p golddots depending on what the gun likes.
I'd have no problem using goldensabers or cor-bon DPX.

For SD, Remington Golden Sabers, 147 grain. Effective, and can be bought in boxes of 50 at discount if you can dig.

For range, whatever I can get that is reloadable, though I always have some 147 grain on hand - I find 147 more accurate in my specific pistols.

Although I am basically a revolver guy I frequently carry 9mm if the mood strikes. I carry a S&W 5906 as my duty weapon when the weather is bad as it is the only suitable stainless gun I own. It is loaded with Win. Ranger 124+p. For CCW I sometimes carry my Browning Hi-Power. I keep it stuffed with Federal 115+P+. When I an just bummin' around on my property I sometimes carry a Norinco 213 Tok. It is usually filled with whatever fmj is cheapest.

The 9mm is a great balance between concealability and "stopping power" for a carry gun. I like speer gold dots for most of my autos.

Depends

If I'm carrying a 9x19 in the winter,I use the Hornady 115gr Critical Defense for penetration of heavy outer clothing and in warmer weather,Georgia Arms 124gr GDHP.
Most horror stories about 9mm stem from the 115gr FMJ,which is cool for the range, but not much else.
I personally avoid 147gr ammo because I've had feeding problems with it.
The only 9mm that have never malfunctioned with any kind of round are my Browning HP35 MKIIIS and my Browning HP35 Capitan.

For those whose pistols are not designed for +P the better load is Federal C9BP or the new Corbon DPX 95 grain.

Of the short list of top-end defensive rounds, Gold Dot 124g +P is the most readily available around here. It has worked fine in my pistol, so that is what I carry. Debating the differences between the high quality hollow point rounds is probably picking at nits.

I think some of it is due to really great gun designs being chambered for the 9mm para cartridge.

9mm pistols like the Hi Power, cz 75, Glocks, Rugers is what appeals to most. I think the calibre consideration amongst the masses is second.

I'm currently using the winchester ranger 115 grain jhp +P+ in my ruger 9mm. I went light and fast with my choice for the best possible reliability in expansion.

winchester 124g +p fmj hp handles well in my Glock 17. As for the stoping power against a attacher im hoping to neer find out any more than the ballistics report can inform me

After carrying a G19 for several years, I've gone to an XDm 3.8 9mm.

I like the Federal 9PBLE 115 gr +P+ load. It's done an excellent job for a lot of LE organizations.
Twenty rounds in the gun, a spare mag and a P3AT seems like it should do the trick.

Actually, any premium SD load from any of the big name companies would make me happy, as long as it ran 100% in my gun and shot to the POI I prefer.

My 9mm loading of choice is Winchester Ranger-T 127grn +P+ followed very closely by Speer Gold Dot 124grn +P. I feel that these two loadings deliver the best balance between speed and weight for this particular caliber.
