Question about Colt Python...

Cheapskates or good shoppers or are we that old?

9mmepiphany: are we related? I paid $350 for my first, a six inch. It had a "bobbed" hammer which was replaced. The second one, a four inch, was bought at $400.

hmm...i'm beginning to think i'm just old, but then i feel bad when i look at old american riflemans and remember when i wasn't old enough to buy the surplus guns on the back cover :barf:

I bought my lightly used 6" python for $650 so I cannot comment on your for a grand. I looked a long time to find a good one that was not shot much. I then gave it to Teddy Jacobson. He polished and smoothed it out for $120. I now have $800 into my python including new grips and it is worth every penny. Absolutely crisp trigger pull and very very very smooth DA (my usual mode).

This is easily the best revolver I have ever shot and better then my old python I sold 20 odd years ago.

Is it worth it? If you get a good one yes. But then again that is why I buy sig 210's instead of Kimbers.

...have owned THREE Pythons...first was a mid-70's production Snake...okay finish, okay action...about on a par with my P&R'ed S&W Model 29...44 Mag. was "Cooler", so away went the Snake...in the last two years, I've purchased two used Pythons that were both built in the mid-60's...a four-inch in about 92-94% condition, and a six-inch in about 98-99% condition...a friend offered me MUCH MORE for the four-inch than I had in it, so...off IT went!!! The six-incher still resides in the Liberty, along with it's original box, grips, papers AND test target...while I am primarily an aficionado of S&W revo's, I don't think I'll be parting with THAT Snake anytime soon...it has an EXCELLENT action for a "stock" revo, and the blued finish is to DIE for!!! Don't think that ANYTHING coming out of Hartford today could rival that gun as far as fit and finish, BUT, IF they did, I could see them charging a grand...but not if they're no better than the mid-70's gun...my two cent's worth....mikey357
