Question about a Colt Government Model 380 not cycling right

Most of the time it is an assembly error. And I've seen cases where someone did a home brew bending job, presumably trying to affect trigger pull. I've never actually encountered one that reach end of spring life, and I think it unlikely that, if a good spring was installed correctly, it would then slip out of alignment.

I had a similar issue with my 380. I had to manually cock the hammer after every shot. Also noticed that if I were to hold the trigger down firmly and rack the slide the hammer would follow it back forward. I followed the advice of this thread and replaced my sear spring and its firing perfect now.

Anyways, just popping in to say this thread was helpful.

I'm like 99% certain your issue exists in what is holding the sear to the hammer.

In the 1911, this would be the sear spring. Tuning it in a 1911 takes about 5 min worth of effort with the sear spring. It can be googled and understood in about 5 min.

Funny how these ancient posts come back and the original OP failed to report the conclusion. We will forever wonder if the GM was repaired by Colt but life will go on none the less:)
