Pyrodex in a flint?

I spoke with the Bass Pro outside of Atlanta GA today. They do carry Goex FFF for $24/lb. Glad to know that I have an option now if I can't find it any closer.

Graf & Sons advertises Goex for $15 per pound, but they're going to add a $25 hazmat fee to the shipping costs. If you order three pounds, that will be roughly the same amount you would pay at Bass Pro, and you won't have to drive to Atlanta.

You guys just don't know where to buy it. You can buy Goex for 9.50 a lb.
Sure, in 25# cases from the major distributors I can pay just under $12 per # for Goex. That will last me 10 years unless I split them with friends.
Or I can drive 3 hours to the nearest Goex distributor, so I can pay $14 or $15 per individual pound.
Or I can pay $25 if any local gunshops actually stock it.
OR, I could buy Pyrodex RS at Walmart 3 miles up the road for $20 per # all day long, feed it kicker charges of my hoard of FFFg under the Pyrodex, and shoot much longer, for less $ (Pyrodex is less dense than real BP, so you get more volume and shots per pound).

When the person above mentioned that Elephant powder had folded, was I the only person who thought "Good!"? Man that stuff was weak, and fouled like crazy, even when stepped down a grain size. Kik,Swiss or Goex for me.

I usually hit the Walmarts for Pyrodex and caps just after b/p season here, as they're on their clearance racks and usually 20% to 40% off regular prices.

I bet 9.50 per pound is pick up only- not shipped.
Shipped to you door is going to be just under $14.

If someone knows where I can get it in the southeast (WV, VA, NC, SC, GA, FL, TN, KY, AL, MS or LA) US for $9.50, PM me. I refuse to even get too close to the Mason-Dixon line.

Andy, I still don't think the math is right.. I believe that it can be had for 9-12$ per lb when ordered online, but then there is the standard shipping charge if $5-$10 PLUS the $25 hazmat free. So for someone just looking for a lb or so that $9 lb easily becomes a $39+ lb.

I agree $24 is way to much, but if I cant find it I guess thats what I will have to do. If you know any shooters int he area that want to team up for a bulk buy to save on shipping I am in.

For the person asking about Elephant, I have not used it but I have heard nothing but bad things.. The break down I was given is that Kik / Goex are pretty equal with Kik possibly having a minor edge and being slightly cheaper. Swiss is supposed to be really good stuff but very expensive. I was told to avoid Elephant at all cost.

Jack's Powder Keg in Louisiana advertises shipping it for as low as $11 per pound. Jack's Battle Powder is bulk fffg Goex without the graphite added.

http://www.jackspowderkeg.com/

Jacks prices include shipping costs.
Jacks Battle Powder 3F (Goex)... $275 (25 lbs.) $11 per lb
Goex 1FG-4FG... $350 (25 lbs.) $14 per lb
Cannon... $275 (25 lbs.) $11 per lb
Diamondback 3FFF...$275 (25lbs.) $11 per lb

You can get it for 9.50 if you buy it in bulk. 25 lbs. loose. You will have to
have 25 empty cans to put it in. Not a job for me.

I think I will stick with graphited in cans for $14 delivered, until I get a mountain howitzer. I was wondering why I had paid to much! :p

Too much work, and possibly too dangerous to divy it up for my liking. I know many people do and have very safely, throughout the centuries, but murphy and his law always seems to find me.

Are you getting that bulk powder in screened granulations, or is it unscreened reenactor powder for blanks, where no one cares what the burn rate is?

I could see the latter.
