Purse snatcher grabs your fanny pack with your gun inside.

Everybody has to carry the best way they can. I'm looking for a pack now, but in IL the law says you must only transport a gun in a "gun case, box, shipping box, or other enclosed container" or something like that. The gun must also be unloaded, which negates any speed-of-draw concerns.
The fanny pack is supposedly qualified as an "enclosed container" while a holster obviously would not be. Thus fanny pack is my only option if I wish to go armed.

Last year I had some little punk take off with my fanny pack BUT I was carrying it, it wasn't on me (and of course no gun in it). My fault I wasn't paying attention getting a cough drop out of the bag I just bought, had a high fever, and SWAP, the little punk took it. I was too sick to chase him and there was only a few bucks in there. So a helpful tip, wear it don't carry it LOL.

Now if I was wearing it, I usually wear it on my side and the buckle part is on the other side. Wearing this gives me two free hands. Personally what I would do is this, if someone were to grab it (provided they don't have a gun) I would grab their hair smack their head on my knee, give 'em a kick to the face and run like the wind :D (I will show no mercy) I think fanny packs are a good way to carry a gun for those fortunate enough to be able to carry. Just make sure that buckle is on your hip , its harder to get it unlocked. Also if you have belt loops on your jeans or shorts loop it in there, it will take them forever to get it, and by then they will have a muzzle pointed at them ;)

I just went and got my hip pouch to have a look. It's a black Galco designed with a "quich draw" cord to open it up easily. My wife and I both have these pouches and wear them when we go for walks in the park. I guess the pouches do "scream gun". However, we both have CCW's so when a LEO sees our pouches and suspects, well...we aren't doing anything wrong. (In Kentucky, the LEO's who I've talked to are pro carry anyway.) The plastic buckle is next to the pouch, so nobody could come up from behind and pop it open. But, I guess the strap could be cut by a sharp knife or razor blade. I'll have to think about a way to mount a secondary clip to hold the pouch to my belt for "just in case".
Good suggestion.

I sometimes carry in a fanny pack, and take the same care with this method as with open carry.

My pack is small, has no rip cords, and is plain black leather. I wear it with the bag on my strong side and the clip on the weak. No one has ever looked at me cross-eyed for it, not even LEOs.

Advice to those who get questioned about packs: stop being so paranoid, you're probably drawing attention. ;)

Considering that the belts with a F-Pak are minimal, use a different belt. Why not use a military type belt with the HD metal clasing arrangement?
IOW, use one belt for you're trousers, shorts, whatever, and the Pak at the same time.
Less likely some turd is gonna break the belt trying to rip you off.

If you're resourceful enough, use a concealable type holster inside the Pak, running the belt through it ALSO. Again the idea to keep the firearm as secure as possible from flopping around inside the Pak. And make the firearm readily accessible if you should ever need to go for it.
