that would depend on your rifle, what type of rifling it has, what exact diameter it has, what the twist rate has and what the throat erosion is like.
...but I've had pistol stuff like 380 acp which was awful and I got hit by ricochet fragments from the jackets.
the jackets on pistol ammo can have that problem at times. I've had jacket separation midflight with Independence and winchester ammunition. when I was being qualified with the M9, I learned how to tell the difference between shrapnel wounds caused by the jacket separation and the actual bullet holes, my target had over 60 holes in it but I only fired 48 rounds. being hit with ricochets is your own fault, move back farther....but I've had pistol stuff like 380 acp which was awful and I got hit by ricochet fragments from the jackets.
