Proven Success or Take a Chance?

Pointer is produced by legacy sports international. Same company that produces howa and escort. My understanding is legacy has a pretty solid reputation.

Checking the local club for used postings is actually a pretty good call. I will look in to that also.

What they said about buying the product of a well known company that will be around with available support is important. Take an established used gun over a questionable new model. Does Legacy produce or simply market the Pointer?

These folks are importers, not makers; similar to Charles Daly, Weatherby, etc. I suspect maybe Turkey, bit there is China, Brazil, Phillippines, etc to also consider

If true, then just like here, Spain, Italy and elsewhere - there are good makers and some not so good. AKUS, who makes the Dickinsons for Cabelas (and previously the Elite for S&W and the Valiant for Kimber) makes EXCELLENT SxS guns with true round actions, genuine charcoal case color hardening, machine-turned barrel flats and crisp triggers. Some of the other makers? Not quite there yet. It doesn't mean they CAN'T make a good gun; it means if it is meant to be sold at a cheap price point, then as many corners that can be cut, will be and the quality suffers accordingly. (And this holds true for any gun type)

Even that amount for a semi is borderline if only considering new. Used opens up a world of better quality guns

Anyone willing to pony up the difference so this guy can get the gun they think he needs?

Does anyone have some first hand knowledge from OWNERSHIP that the Mossberg or Pointer is good/bad?

And I just paid for one on my local shops website. I'll probably get to shoot it next weekend for the first time so expect a good write up.

for hunting just about any thing that goes off will do. say 4-6 boxes a year and to some that will be a lot. start shooting that amount a day and more, will seperate the good from the bad. it all comes down to what your uses will be.eastbank.

for hunting just about any thing that goes off will do.

As long as it continues to do so AND put the shot where it is supposed to be and not off in some other direction due to poorly regulated barrels or chokes. ;)

Thanks for that link, Kvon2.

They look neat, but research is still lacking. I too would want to know where they are made.

I dunno. I'm not sure if I would be comfortable limiting my choices between only these two makes, but I would probably roll with Mossberg. I have Beretta and Benelli and others, but I have three Mossbergs too, and they are solid, if not exactly refined.
