Pronounciation

Tomas, I just realized I misspelled it. Sorry. I guess I could say I did it on purpose to see if anyone would catch it. It won't happen again.

Lost Sheep,

Not at all. I'm saying that just because a dictionary says it's pronounced a certain way is only a recommendation. Think about this. How do we know the people who wrote the dictionary are correct? It's purely subjective.

There are no dictionary police stalking reloaders just waiting for someone to pronounce it differently.

FrankenMauser,

I'm with you. Just like the pronunciation of that bore cleaner. You know, the one with the two "p"s and begins with the letter "H."

Pogeybait

Yes, there are no "dictionary police". The people who write dictionaries police themselves. It may be subjective, but it is also historical, with all the rigor that term implies.

The etymology of the word indicates that the Arabic and Spanish pronunciations of the source root words used the soft "g" sound rather than the hard "g". (This was news to me. I have until today always used the hard "g" sound. Calling it "o-jive" seems too 1930's jazz to me.)

Jood night.:D

Higgite,

Badda bing, badda boom! A perfect slam dunk and an excellent response for which I have no intelligent, or funny, or stupid, or clever reply. Thanks.

Rottweiler,

Thanks for your comment on og(j)ive. You are a true Texan. I too am a Texas boy. I am unbelievably proud to be a Texan but you couldn't move me from Colorado for anything.

I guess I just don't give an "O-CRAP" how some of y'all says things, or fer that matter write things. In certain instances/areas, proper/perfect pronunciation, spelling, punctuation and grammar are very important, but on a reloading forum with a bunch o' anonymous fellers chewin' the cud, it jes don matter...:p

What can be considered offensive is the ones who believe it's their job to correct everyone's misspellings and mispronunciations...

I don't need no book learn
Yes, we have the 'internet' don't we :D . I never know the correct pronunciation either for this word. Now I do, so I'll start it the proper way. Learn something every day!

Pronunciation, shmunciation! We don't need no steenkin' pronunciation! I'm just going to quit talking and text everything! :D
