Progressive lens vs bifocal

For me it was like someone threw a switch. On my 45th birthday (just a few short years ago), I realized there were two 1" orange glow dots slightly overlapping on my targets at 100 yards. The rifle wasn't shooting like it used to. Also the vertical cross-hair in my scopes was thinner than the horizontal. Astigmatism. I tried to have a prescription pair of glasses made but it has never worked out. I shoot mainly irons. I get by. Also as I put on weight and drink more, I find that while the long-sightedness hasn't changed much, the astigmatism has all but gone away. Just sayin'.

So of course I'm slightly joking about putting on weight and drinking. But I do feel like the astigmatism part of my prescription has gotten somewhat better without glasses. I can't stand wearing them. I wear magnifiers for reading indoors, but when I shoot, and I know this is a "no-no", but I can't even see right with regular shades anymore, so don't wear any. Bright sun out in the desert and I'm fine. In the shade at the range it's a struggle. I was "training" for a while and I was down to a 130 Lbs. I'm convinced it effected my eyes (among other things). Now I'm back up to a normal weight (150-ish) and things have improved.
Not sure if that's helpful.

Went back to my Eye Dr. they changed the left eye (a lot) the part of the lens I look through (progressive lenses) was altered, took them back to Walmart, no problem, now to wait. Must say every one was really nice.

I've had my bifocals (progressives) for 6 months or so now. Man, I hated these things and for the life of me could not unnerstnad how someone could "get used" to them. After the day after I picked them up- had to go to the qualification range. Dudes had the gall to ask if I'd been drinking! 2 weeks after getting them, it occurred to me that I hadn't actually urinated on my own boots- and I tell ya what- Considering how much is involved in "getting used" to these things, I consider not peeing on myself a major accomplishment!

Have now reacquired my spectacles, progressive! Walmart/Eye Dr. got it together.

Have not driven at night yet (we don't get out much!) so I have not tested the anti-glare part of the prescription, but they work well, re vision.

Just not happy wearing glasses! So looks like I will use reading glasses to read, laptop use (like now) wrap-around dark glasses to shoot outdoors, and drive in bright Florida days. My Buddy gave me some clip on sun shields, his new glasses required different ones, they work well.

Not sure who made the original error, Dr. or Walmart? But they both did not charge anymore, in wearing glasses from being 15YOA, to being 45 years of age (Laser Surgery, the old kind then!) now 79, the luxury of not needing glasses is hard to give up. The spending $300.00! Ouch!

Remembering the old Jewish statement "We get too soon old, too late Smart" That seems to fit here.

Well, my little adventure has ended back at square 1 with no glasses at all. Walmart/Eye dr told me it would be around 2 wks to make the glasses. After 2.5 weeks I called and was told they were delayed due to weather at their production facility in Illinois but that they would be in for sure by Friday. Friday came, nobody called so I called them and after a long delay I was told they were almost ready but would not arrive until sometime next week. I asked since it was over three weeks could you please express ship. I was told that wasn't possible since they were coming from a plant in Mexico.

At that point I decided I was being given the ol "song and dance" routine and the probability of subsequent issues with the glasses was too high and requested a refund.

That is one of the reasons why I do not buy perscription glasses at Walmart. I wear progressive lenses. Had no problems what so ever from day one in terms of seeing and being comfortable with the progressive part of the perscription.

I hate bifocals progressive or regular, so one thing I did was had a pair of glasses with large lenses made for distance correction only. I use these for hutning and ATV riding. I still wear the bifocals for everyday use, but hate them. I switch to reading glasses when I read.

Anyways, I found that both pairs of glasses change my point of impact on my scoped .22 rifle. Moves it down a couple inches and right another couple inches at 75 yards. With the naked eye, I'm dead on. Just something I thought I'd pass along.
