Problems with CZ-USA service...

Glad it's working out.

Trying to get things done in July and August can be difficult.

I received my $12 parts order from Marlin yesterday. I called it in on 7/30 and had about decided that it was lost in the mail. The invoice had a blurb on it that they were closed for vacation for a week or two and would reopen on, IIRC, 8/6.

I haven't even purchased my CZ yet and I have received much less that satisfactory assitiance.

I want and intend to get a CZ75 B SA in .40 S&W. I asked my dealer to get one and he can't find one, so I called CZ direct to see what the deal was. The said they we're in short demand and it would be a few months. They were very rude, short and to the point as though I was bothering them. I let it go and called my dealer with the news. He then decided to call CZ and see if they would tell him the names of some of the distributors they sent these particular guns to. When my dealer called me back he explained how they were less than helpful. In fact, I remember him saying they were the rudest he's ever been treated by a gun manufacturer. They said it would take to long to look that info up.

Anyway my search continues, the main problem seems to be that none of the distributors seperate the 75 B between models specifics. The 75B 9mm is listed the same as the .40 with nothing to differentiate between action or caliber. :(

Bullitt,

As for finding out availability of a particular piece I'd suggest conacting Phil at CZ Connection. In fact he did have a few CZ 75B SA .40s in stock a week or two ago. I'm sure he'd be more than willing to ship one to your FFL for transfer.

E-mail Phil at CZ Connection at ton80@mindspring.com .

Thanks Rainbow, Phil does have some.

My only dilema is that by the time I pay a transfer fee, shipping and a background check, I'll be spending more than I would if I just wait and buy it from my dealer. Decisions, decisions??

I would also like to incorporate that piece of Kahr :barf: crap I bought, in on the deal as a trade. I'm so glad you decided to purchase the G 27 for back up and not the Kahr, especially since you have to depend on a gun in your line of work.

They fixed my Kahr, its seems to shoot better, but I can never trust it enough to carry it again, so its gone.

Yeah, the shipping, transfer, etc really cuts into the practice ammo money, huh? :(

I looked into the Kahr line but I would have had to deal with an out of state dealer to get LE pricing which means that I end up in the same boat as you with the CZ 75B SA .40. Also, one of the biggest advantages that Glock has over ANY other manufacturer is the fact that I have the same exact trigger, action, basic grip angle, etc in my back-up as I do my primary. Another huge plus is the fact that I can use my primary mags in my back-up. And as always, my Glocks have always been stone cold 100% reliable. :D

R6,

I was gonna hit you up and make you fix the Glock raffle so I'd win just for getting me into this.

Can't do that but I'll be willing to sell you enough tickets to give you a good chance.:)

If I hadn't shot your CZ first I wouldn't have bought one and became addicted!!!

I don't remember having to twist your arm to get you to try it.

I don't knwo whether to thank you or throw reloading dies at you.

Better make it reloading dies. I'm running short on ammo.:)

Update on parts delivery...

Well, just as Marty said on the phone, I got the spring and grips yesterday! He sent them next day air UPS. I absolutely could not ask for a better response to my concerns that what I got from Marty. I'm gonna have to give CZ-USA a break and say that once they were made fully aware of my expectations, concerns and frustration they did go the distance to guarantee my satisfaction.

Also, after seeing how they actually handled my problem after I let them know how I felt about it I have to back up a little and shoulder some responsibility here. First of all, when I talked with Mike I didn't let him know what my expectations were but I expected him to live up to them. Hindsight shows me that although I still think I should have gotten the extractor quicker than I did, I think that I may not have been completely fair to them when they didn't live up to my unknown expectations. What I'm saying is, maybe their standard is 10 - 14 days for delivery so if I don't let them know that I expect my parts in 3-5 business days they have no way of knowing that they need to rush the order to make me happy. After all, I didn't ask them to rush it, nor did I ask when to expect the part.

I feel like I have to cut them some slack and eat some of the blame myself. I have learned a valuable lesson though. In the future, if I'm having something shipped and expect it to be here ASAP I will make it clear to the sender. That way everyone is on the same page and they will be given a fair chance at meeting my expectations since the sender will know exactly what they are. I can't hold CZ-USA totally at fault in this incident after really thinking about it.

Based on all of this I will continue to be a CZ-USA customer and try to make my expectations known in any future dealings with them. I still think that such a problem should be handled quicker as standard procedure but that's not the purpose of this post... :)

Now, let's just hope that the spring and extractor fix the problem! :)

R6:

Glad you got the parts! I won't have to look for my rubber grip set afterall!

Still, I am troubled by the thought that CZ turned out a defective product.

I love their guns and service.

Considering the litigious nature of today's society...

It really is surprising that a firm will send parts for the customer to install. I wonder if they sent instructions or at least a disclaimer to the effect that it should be installed by a professional gunsmith. If they didn't either corporate counsel is asleep or they're very trusting.

Myself, I would be delighted to deal with a firm which sent parts upon request. It's really no big thing to use a pin punch to knock out a pin, replace a part & spring.

Skorzeny,

I'd still be interested in picking those grips up from you as a spare set. If you find them please let me know. :) As for CZ turning out a defective product, they would have had to put at least 50 rounds through my pistol to know that it had a problem. My first FTE was around or after the first 50. I don't think this is a quality control issue. I wouldn't expect any gun company to put that many test rounds through a pistol before shipping it. Also, it's a mechanical product made and assembled by people so there's bound to be a few flaws here and there. I was never really concerned about CZ quality. I think the quailty of my 75B is as good as any Glock, SIG, S&W, etc I have ever owned. I wouldn't trade it for a new SIG unless I could sell the SIG and buy two or three CZ's. :D

4V50 Gary,

I was very happy that they sent me the parts instead of having me send the gun off. I also told them so in my last letter. I thought that was a plus from the beginning! As for instructions/disclaimer, they didn't send either with the parts but Mike at CZ-USA told me on the phone how to install them and said to call if I needed any help. It appears to be a no brainer.

Basically he said to just drive the pin out (top to bottom I think, don't have the instructions handy) to remove the old parts and put the new ones in. There's really not a lot of elaborating he could do here. It seems to be a simple straight forward fix. Drive pin out, catch old extractor & spring, put in new spring & extractor and replace pin. The only real instruction needed was which way to drive the pin out (towards top or bottom of slide).

R6

I'm gonna taclke the install in the morning and try to get to the range tomorrow afternoon. I'll post resluts as soon as I have them. :)

R6

R6,

If you get a chance, carefully compare the new parts to the ones you take out. I'd be interested in hearing (or seeing) exactly what the problem was.

Joe

Will do, Joe. Just comparing them with the original one in the gun I can't see much, if any difference in the extractors. I think maybe it was a good thing that I got the spring too. :)

If I get the old one out and there's a visible difference somehow I may try the new extractor without using the new spring to see if it was in fact an extractor problem. If they are visually the same I will probably go ahead and install both new pieces assuming that it was a defective spring.

Either way, I'll let you know how it turns out.

R6

R6 Glad this thing is getting resolved for you!

Please compare the springs carefully and let us know what you see as far as length differences, possible kinks, etc.

No problem, slick. I have a Nikon 990 digital camera that takes CLOSE macro shots. Anything I find will be posted along with pics. :)

I haven't gotten it apart yet. My sinuses are trying to push my eyes out and I can't even see straight! I wanna be able to see what I'm doing when I take my gun apart. :)
