Problems with .223 Tula Ammo from Wal-Mart

I wrote explicitly I bought the Tula because it was the only 62 grain at the store at the time--not because it was the cheapest I could find. I will be ordering appropriate 62 or 63 grain 5.56 brass fairly soon. I was hoping somebody might have some info/thoughts on the deformation on the steel casing and whether or not that might contribute to a misfeed.

The dimpling is much more likely to be happening during the ejection process than during feeding.

Look at the area around the ejection port of your rifle and I'll bet you can find the feature in that area that's putting the dimple on the cases.

but the reason I bought the Tula was because I thought I would get better results being a higher pressure/velocity round

Was curious as to how you arrived at the impression that Tula was a higher velocity round? Over my chornograph, it is pretty much average to a bit under average in regards to velocity.

thanks

Thanks John--I'm looking at the weapon right now and the port edge is pretty rounded smooth carbon--though I don't know what the casing might be banging into inside the chamber in the process of ejection. My theory is that somehow the round doesn't "spring gracefully" from the magazine and that is why it doesn't align--and consequently jams. Just an armchair guess.

@Arizona--I just assumed the higher grain was better for the 1/9 twist than the 55 grain remington 223 and would go a bit further and more accurate --though to be honest I didn't check the actual numbers. I'm just now starting experimenting with different rounds with varying loads--trying to find the sweet spot for a good round with good accuracy out to a decent (for a carbine) intermediate (200/300 yds) range with better than target round stopping power.

Crappy ammo, crappy results... You get what you pay for but tula throws in a twist. You dont ever know what the junk is gonna do. I dont care for it and wont ever shoot it in my rifles.

Rest assured--it was the first and last time a tula round finds it's way through my AR--though if I ever get a decent AK (next up on my wish list) I think it would probably eat anything : ) I tried wolf 45 acp in my XD once with one round in 50 similarly misfeeding in the chamber. A couple of the rounds didn't even fire.

Yea I won't run anything but brass cased ammo in my ARs. I am willing to pay a little more not to have to worry about it. I have put a couple thousand rounds thru my M&P 15 and I can honestly say I can count on one hand how many times I have had problems with brass ammo.

If you shoot the cheapest ammo you can find, you should expect the cheapest performance you can get.IMHO

Well put sir.

I have shot steel case that has been given to me, no problems in my two Bushmaster barrels. One of my Colt barrels chokes on steel case. XM193 or 855 is cheap, why run crap in your gun?

I have three AR-15s and I use the Monarch steel case made by Barnaul. Two are chrome lined and one is not. I use it for plinking and practice. Never had a hiccup with the stuff.
