Presenting my Ruger 77 MkII in it's new Boyd's stock

WBlover, why did you have to go and post a picture of your rifle so that I happened to see it? I am holding your personally responsible ,LOL ! :)
I just ordered mine from Boyd's ..I got a finished pepper /black color and got the #2 checkering job on it and they had it in stock, so I should have it sometime next week. I cant wait!!!
Im assuming all the stock mounting hardware ( mounting screws) will be used on the new stock? Anything else that I need to know to mount all the existing parts to the new stock?

I also took a look at your FIL's website that you made for him and I just want to say thank you ... to both of you. Him for his service to our Country and to you for honoring him in such a grand way. Very nicely done!!
It is also a honor to know you for making the flightsim birds....WOW!!!
The F6 is my favorite of alltime WWII birds. About a month ago I flew the maiden flight on my F6-5 that had a 80 inch wingspan and is powered with a 55cc gasser engine swinging a 22 inch prop. You and I need to talk warbirds:D Give me a shout at work...jmcgowan@uabmc.edu

I didnt mean to hijack your thread,...(sorry) but if I had not seen your thread I'd still be stuck with my ugly stock Ruger rifle stock:eek:
Thanks so very much and I'll be looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care,
John

For those who were were wondering what it weighs, I wrote them and asked them and they said 2-1/2 lbs. Mine didn't weigh that much on a bathroom scale so that is probably the max. for the largest stock.

The rifle, stock, and scope look great. I especially like the checkering, worth every penny. But you really need some accuate scales to weigh stuff on. Bathroom scales just aren't accurate enough. I've weighed too many stocks on my postal scales. 2.5 lbs would be lighter than I'd expect based on the ones I've weighed. Most aftermarket companies tend to fudge a bit and claim they are lighter than they actually are. I'm betting 2.5-3 lbs will be the actual weight on accurate scales. Remingtons factory laminated mountain rifle stocks are 3 lbs., and are about as trim as you can get.

Not that that is always a bad thing. That is heavier than I'd want, but not everyone wants a rifle as light as I want either. It does look good, and I'd bet it shoots just as well.

I really like it! This stock is sweet. The only thing I would change at all with this rifle setup is that darned rectangular tag on the top of the eyepiece that nikon is putting on their scopes. They look like someone forgot to take off the price tag lol. Those goobers at nikon need to get rid of that. I know, I'm weird. But all kidding aside your rifle does look great.

Took it out for a "test fire" today in less then ideal conditions. It was pouring out and foggy. Luckily the range has a roof over all the shooting benches. I stuck some targets up at 100 and 200 yards. First thing I noticed was that I did not have the reticle level so had to borrow an allen wrench and fix that. I wasn't too far off on the first one. I was NOT shooting well. It was so hazy I couldn't see how steady I was and I wasn't steady! In any case I used my new (very blurry and almost useless) Barska spotting scope X-mas present and didn't look very good. In the future I'm going to have to use "dirty bird" and similar targets with this spotting scope. Then it should suffice. When I walked down to the target I had some shots dead center that I couldnt' see from back at the bench. And the one shot I took at 200 yards was in the center! I think it's going to be okay. At least now I'm zeroed and I can start looking at groups. Nothing loosened up on the rifle though, action screws, scope screws etc. and the new lighter trigger spring worked great! Had lot's of favorable comments on the Boyd's stock. :p

warbird

that sure looks awesome! those Boyd's don't disappoint. you will have to shoot again under better conditions. Congrats !!

WTG Jerry!! Wait until the weather clears up a bit and I'll bet you see that you have a deadly gun there. It looks as good as anything Ive ever seen.

Forgot to mention the gusts up to 40 mph too!! (I need all the excuses I can get)...

Actually the barrel is really too tight in the channel and I've got to take some wood out. I have a strong suspicion that is what is keeping me from shooting the normal tight groups I've always gotten out of this Ruger. If I would have gotten lucky and it shot great I saved myself some work but you know how that goes. It doesn't EVER work out that way... :D

I like the checkering. Not sure when they started doing that. I have a couple of their stocks. I just ordered another set of cutters to checker the last slick stock. The stock is hard on tools and will run close to the cost of laser checkering. Of course you miss out on the enjoyment of checkering and the frustration of some of the tops of the diamonds falling off.
