Dropped right in. From the contact marks on the action/stock mating it might not need glass bedding. I'm going to try it first. I've got some pressure on the end of the stock similar to the old stock..... :D

So... what do you think?

Well done! Let us know how it does. I've got an old tang safety Model 77 on layaway and I'll get it out in January. If I need a replacement stock, I'll probably go with that same stock you've got.

This stock was $92 plus $55 for the laser checkering. The tang safety version is only $74 probably because the tang safety is less work for them to inlet.

That looks WONDERFUL!!!!
I would really like to get a stock like the one you have:). Ive got a MkII .270 in the stock stainless barrel with the funky synthetic stock , would you mind sending me a link to look it over? When do you think you'll know if its got to be glass bedded or not?

Hey warbirdlover, how did you come to get your user name? The reason I ask is that I fly some WWII rc airplanes and am on RCUniverse some.WARBIRDS RULE!!!

Thanks,
John

edit: I googled Boyd's stocks and found it. Is yours the pepper laminate color?
Lastly, how much cleaance is between your barrel and new stock please? Anything touching the barrel?

John,
You got it! It's the classic in pepper. Not much clearance at all on the barrel. I probably should take a little out but it fits so perfectly. I have it touching near the end just like my skeleton stock did. I might have to play to see how it groups. I'm not a big believer in free floating. I'm from the old school of contact near the end of the barrel. I'm hoping to go shoot this Friday and test out my new X-mas present spotting scope! :D

I picked my name because I LOVE the old WWII warbirds. My deceased FIL used to fly P-38's in the Pacific. Here's a link to the website I made for him...

I also used to design and sell warbirds to fly in Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator and then the Flight Simulator 2004 etc. Here's a link to my best job, a Hellcat. It still sells!

I really like the checkering on the grip. The lighting type forward end of the checkering is very attractive. I would give her a lady’s name. Boyd’s makes good designs and are well made.
I like it. Then again it’s hard not to like a Ruger 77.

Sweet!
I've been thinking really hard on trying one out on my Vanguard. That just made my decision a lot easier!! :D
Can't wait to hear the shooting results with it just dropped in as-is.

For those who were were wondering what it weighs, I wrote them and asked them and they said 2-1/2 lbs. Mine didn't weigh that much on a bathroom scale so that is probably the max. for the largest stock.

Well, since it's a .300 Win Mag... how about BIG BERTHA!! :D

Oh yeah, that laser checkering is SWEET! Feels almost as good as cut checkering! One of the advantages of a wood stock for sure.

That is a nice looking rig, warbirdlover I may go with the Ruger Hawkeye instead of the Remington 700 sps. The Rugers I have shoot good and the triggers are easy to fix.
