Do you own one?

The issue's I'm having with it (Possibly a break-in period is needed) are keeping me from wanting to carry it.

As for the OT, I'm picking up a G19 during my lunch break today. I figure an extensive side by side comparison will be the only way I'll figure this out. Plus, everyone should own a glock, right?

I was really hoping that Glock would come out with a 9mm single stack this year as the shield is not for me and the XDS feels like a cannon in my hands.

Out of curiosity, what would a single stack Glock do that a Shield would not, now that there are safety-less Shields? Is it just the shape you don't like?

You made the smartest decision. :) Frankly none of use are you and while we can give our experience, none of us can tell you what will work for you with certainty. I actually do think everyone should own a Glock, if just for reference.

I own both of those guns.

I would never consider carrying the PPQ, trigger is just too light. It is a fine range gun, however, and I hit really well with it. The PPQ feels really good in the hand and the trigger is better than any other out of the box plastic gun IMO.

The G19 is probably one of the best carry guns ever made if you consider size, weight, capacity, reliability, etc. This is the gun that I'd go to war with.

Well, the verdict is in. I shot both side by side at multiple distances many times.

I shot the EXACT same. Ragged holes at 7yds for both of them, 15 and 25 had same size groupings.

PPQ is leaving, G19 is here to stay.

Now one more question, I am looking to get into some gaming. I have sasquatch sized hands so the G19 isn't ideal since I'll undoubtedly get more than a few blood blisters slamming mags in..

It is between the G17 and G34.

Mainly IDPA, possibly USPSA in the future. I'll be putting a Vanek classic into whatever I get since that's what my G19 has and I want the same feel in all of my guns. Some sights as well.

The fact that I am changing the trigger and sights makes me want to stay away from the G34 ($550) and go with the G17 ($450)..but I am unsure of how important that longer slide is. Anyone care to elaborate?

TheeAntic,
Are you looking at gen 3 or gen 4 Glocks?

I'm guessing gen 3 based on the prices you mentioned.

Good job going with the G19.

I'd have a very had time choosing between a 17 and 34. Having shot both I can't chose a favorite. I might say to go with a 34 just because it's another step away from the 19 which will give you a little more variety. You might want to look for one with a frame that is something other than black. They really look great as two tone guns with the longer black slide.

Good luck and enjoy:)

I would go with the Glock 19. I carry mine everywhere, with no worries that it will always fire after indirect exposure to the elements. I don't worry about normal wear and tear, because appearance is never going to be a Glock's strong suit. If I ever have to use it, I won't be heartbroken (or financially ruined) if it has to spend a few years in an evidence locker, and I know that its replacement will function and fire the exact same.

One other gee whiz benefit for g19 is the option to have the 33rd mag to supplement reg mag. I wouldn't ever carry one but nice to have one or two loaded in safe...

I have both guns.

For carry, the extra length of the PPQ will not be an issue, due to the bottom of the grip being more rounded. It really doesn't stick out more than my G19, in my experience. I prefer the PPQ 100% or the time for carry without thinking twice. Having said that, if you feel better about the comfort of the Glock, then the answer is easy. I have no issue carrying the G19, and do not find it in any way inferior to the PPQ. The trigger reset points and "feel" are purely academic when it comes to adrenaline dump and self-defense. Don't worry about the trigger, as long as you can shoot it without terrible difficulty at the range.

Case in point, my brother has a DAO S&W 4043 as his main SD gun. Over the years, he has honed his abilities with that gun, and shoots very well. I pick it up, and struggle to make decent groups in anything but slow-fire. It's second nature to him. You can train yourself to shoot well with any gun, but some are more natural at first.

Honestly, practice, critical thinking, and good tactics are going to be far more important than the tool in your hand. We are gun enthusiasts, for the most part, and like variety. Nothing wrong with that.

Also a valid point. you could take that into consideration, depending on where you need to go while carrying. If you're out camping in the wild, you can use extra rounds for many reasons outside of defense, like signaling your location, should you become lost for days, or to break open to start a fire. I'm sure we could create a thread on how to be Macgyver with a gun!

In the house, the G19 makes a better nightstand gun than an AR15. Having some extra rounds available never hurts. The likelihood of needing them is probably slim, but you never know...if a few people come into your house high on meth and angry, then you're probably better off than a guy with a 5-shot revolver. If you're like me, you have a loaded AR in the safe nearby, so the extra benefit is lost.

On the flip side of this discussion, I wouldn't intentionally go somewhere in town that I felt an extra 15-rounder would be insufficient. Some people won't leave their house without a "truck gun" and extra mags, even in the good areas, so that is all personal choice. Reality for CCW is that mag capacity is the same, even with practical larger backup mags (G17 or PPQ +2).

The only advantage I see to my Gen 4 G19, over my PPQ M2, is that the grip's texture is better. The Glock just makes me more confident that I have a good grip on the gun.

I may have my P99 and my PPQ given a stippling treatment just for that reason.

The PPQ has such a good trigger that it I use it as the standard for all striker fired pistols.

But I really do like the G19 and actually owned a holster for it years prior to getting one. But that is another story.

Bart Noir
Who wonders if he should swap the PPQ M2 for a classic PPQ, just so the magazine releases are the same for all his Walthers. Not to include the P38.

I didn't vote in your poll because I don't agree with either. Of those in your collection, I'd be much more interested in carrying the VP9.

If you're looking at potentially adding a gun the size of the G19 for easier carry.... take a good look at the Sig P320 Compact. It's VERY close to the G19. It's actually a little thinner overall than the Glock 19 not including the take-down lever. The frame of the P320 is thinner than the Glock.

It's really, really good. Do yourself a favor and check it out if you have not.
It also has a longer sight radius! Comfy cc too

I have a PPQ and love the smooth combat trigger with short reset. I say get the g19 because you said it fit your hand better.
