Powder for .223

TAC and CFE223 are the standards nowadays. There are so many good choices though, venturing away from those works well too.

I've used IMR 4320, 748 and BLC-2 had excellent results with all three. At the present time I'm loading BLC-2 as it gives me exceptional accuracy in all three of my rifles in 223 caliber. Be advised there's claims that BLC-2 can ring barrels longer then 20 inches. I'm not concerned with that as all my 223 rifle barrels are 20 inches or shorter.

All based on bullet choice

Certain powders will favor lighter or heavier bullets. Check the reloading manual to tailor your powder to your projectile.

I really like Varget

I have been using H335 for years - it works. I am down to about a pound after loading up all of my 223 this past winter. I have been using CFEpistol with great success in 9mm and 45. I also have a buddy that has been praising CFE223 and plan to try it out next time I load 223.

I load 223 every other year. I only shoot about 2k per year and I have about 5k of brass.

I reload for .308 and .223. I can use w748 for both, and it works well, and meters very well. I tried H335 and it produced a huge fireball, so I went back to w748.
