Possible new Attorney General

Just read where there are three candidates for attorney general in the Bush cabinet.

The third is DAN LUNGREN of California!

If he got to that position, I believe we'd be in real deep doodoo as gun owners.

Anyone else have a comment?

Dan Lungren is one of the worst POS on the planet. The man is a political animal and would (has) sold out the Constitution, esp 2nd A, on a regular basis.

I would hope that Condoleeza Rice or Dick Cheney will note such foolishness.

So, does this mean you all believe that Janet is out of a job? Hmmmmm? ;)

FWIW, CNN reports that the leading AG candidate is Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating. Montana Gov. Mark Racicot is also mentioned.

For my part, I can't see Lungren in a Bush cabinet, and hope it doesn't happen.

Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore has also been bandied about as a possible AG choice.

He came out on the radio the other week and said he intends to finish out his term as Governor in Virginia, though.

I'd love to see Rudy Guiliani or David Shippers. Yea, I know Rudy is from Noo Yark but I'm more interested in seeing him go through the DOJ like a Roto-Rooter. Shippers has bumped heads with the Chicago mob ever since dirt was clean.

chiming in from Oklahoma. Frank Keating would be an excellent choice. He served extensively in the Regan & Bush administrations. He was Assistant AG for Bush I believe. He signed the Oklahoma CCW law 3 years ago. And here is a photo of his WIFE and her first deer.

He has always been a friend of sportsmen and hunters here. Will be the complete opposite of Janet "is she really a man" Reno. His only down side is that he sometimes shoots his mouth off and offends some people (liberals). I think it shows balls. He is no friend of the media, although they like it when he puts his foot in his mouth. GW couldn't pick a better man.

Keating is a good choice though I believe that Danforth is a shoe in for the job. What I want to know is who is being tapped for Secty of the Treasury.

Danforth, as in John Danforth of Waco fame?????

Say it ain't so! His Waco "investigation" was a white wash worth of the best work of ClintonClintonandGore.

Whoever it turns out to be, I hope it is someone who believes in enforcing the law and not making political points. This will be asking for quite a bit because of where the job is.

I'm from Missouri and am not really impressed with Ashcroft. He might be a loyal team player but there has to be a better choice out there. I would settle for a totally incorruptable in your face AG that really got the job done.

Didn't Dubya say that he's going to break up INS so that the agency responsible for facilitating (he probably didn't use that word ;)) legal immigration wouldn't also be charged with catching illegal aliens? Seems to me there are some other agencies that need to be broken up as well.

I'm from Missouri too and don't like either Ashcroft or Danforth for the job.
An attorney general is normally a very loyal and close confident of the president, someone who first and foremost can always be counted upon to protect the president's interests come what legally may. Think of JFK and Bobby and Nixon and his campaign manager Mitchell.
Neither of these two men is an ardent Bush supporter. Ashcroft in the past wanted to be President himself. He may still be more interested in his own political career than Bush's. He is definitly not a personable type of guy and he carries a lot of political baggage that is not all that appealing to the majority. Remember, this is a guy who lost to a dead man and there are good reasons for this.
Danforth has been busy the last year or so making sure that the Clinton administration (which he may see a the U.S. Government for good or ill) is protected from any embarassment on the Waco fiasco. The media likes to paint him as a "wise man", but I think both his intelligence and integrity is over rated. If I had to summarize him in one word, it would be "arrogant". He's not a team player and he is definitly not Bush's loyal man.
Bush is going to need his own man for this job, not somebody else's man. I hope he picks a good man, his own man, probably one none of us ever heard of before.

The only thing which kept that useless feces in line was his hope for election to the governor's office. Happily, he failed in that.

BTW, I remember when he was first elected as AG in CA. He hailed from Southern California and was running against SF's DA, Arlo Smith. The funny thing was LA wanted to get rid of Lungren so they voted for him. SF wanted to get rid of Smith, so they voted for Smith. LA won & SF suffered with another four years of incompetence (but it's worse now). Rather amusing that both cities were applying the Peter Principle to politics.

President Bush's web site is still up.
He has a section for making comments under the "contact us" icon.

Tell him what you think, and want. Be sure to remind him that without the support of us gun owners, he would not be president.

Herodotus: Perhaps more to the point, given the job, Ashcroft is the guy who lost to a dead man DUE TO ELECTION LAW VIOLATIONS, and decided that it wasn't worth taking it to court. We do NOT need an AG who has that, "They stole the election fair and square." attitude, we need one who goes berserk at the thought of a law being violated, and doesn't give a darn who did the dirty dead. Schippers, maybe; That would be a great guesture towards bipartisanship.
