FUD,
My wife chose a Taurus Total Titanium snub in .38 Special for concealed carry.. I've watched her shoot it in low light situations and I can't see any flash coming out of the ports. I've also fired it side by side with my old S&W Chief's Special. Other than the grips being much more comfortable, I don't notice any difference is recoil between ported and non-ported. (We use Federal non +P Nyclads) I think it's a non-issue. However the Taurus is lighter, more durable, and easier to carry. (And MUCH better looking!)
You got a good pistol!
