Popularity of XD/XDm Pistols

Now you know the Springfield dirty secret.

While I imagine there are those that still don't know the past of Springfield Armory, I'm not sure I would call it a secret when they have a page right on their website that says it. No doubt they are using the name they bought the rights to in order to make a profit, however.

their 1911 pistols are imported from Brazil

As others have stated, I believe that changed in recent years.

I really not sure that's true when it comes to their 1911s. You said to call and ask and I will try and do that this week. But quite honestly where they make or don't make their 1911s really doesn't matter for the question I'm asking.

And yes I knew about the HS2000 being the XD.

I know I read all about Imbel and their relationship with Springfield Armory. I'm willing to believe you may well be right, but again, it doesn't really matter for the question I'm asking in particular.

For those who may have forgotten, this was the original question of the OP:

For others, do you see a fair amount of [XD and XDm] pistols in your area?

Please stay on topic.

Cordially,

There are a few around hereabouts. Saw one at the range and the local shop carries a few (Fleet Farm also stocks many models). Mostly I see Glocks and M&Ps around here.

Almost all the local shops are heavy into Kimber (master dealers, whatever that means) so I assume there are lots being sold that I don't see at the range.

I see a decent number of XD's in Western PA. Several months ago a friend of mine bought and XDS-45 and I thought that I hadn't seen many XD's around lately. Since then I've run into them constantly. I noticed a lot at the local gun shop and have seen a good many at the range since then. Kind of like when you buy a new car maybe and then start noticing the model on the street more.

They aren't my cup of tea but they seem to be solid guns.

This is a good point and somewhat of a failing on my part as I completely forgot about the XDS. I have seen a few of those around at my range.

I suspect for carry they're more popular than the XD. The XDS is extremely "handy" in size, and lighter. And quite different internally, than the XD.

I like that new hammer fired XD-E with the DA/SA trigger, ambi thumb safety and it doesn't have a grip safety. I think this one fills a nice niche for a newer shooter who wants to CC. I think Springfield might have a real winner with this one!
