Definately ten yards or less with an 870. I don't know about this hand to hand business though, since Binny is 6'5" , 200 lean lbs and enjoys 70 mile bareback rides to "relax".

Dave, you forget though, if he is out on one of his 70 mile leisure camel rides then he would make a much bigger target. :)

Does it matter where he's hit?

'cause if you require a brain shot, I'd change my vote to 10 meters.

I could hit his unwashed nasty bum at 500+ meters with iron sights.

I guess I should have put up "other". Sorry! Forgot that there would be people who would want to get their hands around his throat!

500 yards through the heart if he's riding away after leaving you for dead. Otherwise, 6 inches, so you can hear the gurgle when the carotid is cut.

Looks like about 25% of the responders would also think they have 12" tallywackers.

They must be measuring distance like writers for the gunrags do.

Hey, it's not all that expensive to get your heroic bod into the general area. You can get a passport real easy. Explore the Pak/Afghan border and see what you find. Heck, maybe SOF will buy your article and photos, about "How I Wiped Out A Terrorist And Earned $30 MIllion".

(Grumble, grumble. Go off to supper and come back and find a bunch of folks been makin' poopie all over my Forum. Grumble, gritch...)

Lone why don't you think a 500+ yard shot is possible? I used to hit 500 yard man sized targets 10 out of 10 times with an issue M16A2 during qualifications in the Marine Corps. I know it wouldn't be a problem with either of my scoped rifles. Hell my factory Rem 700P 300WM shoots about 3 inch groups at 400 yards, max my range has, so I know that would hit. My custom .308 shoots half that size. Don't sell yourself short. I bet most here could make that shot especially with some practice.

I gotta agree with Rob01. Standing still, a man is an easy target out to 500 yards. A little knowledge of the wind drift, and you pretty much gotta be somewhere in the torso. Hold about two or 2-1/2 feet over a guy's head and you create some serious heartburn. The most important factor is knowing the distance; after that, it's easy.

Granted it was a still day, but Charley Whitman punched a guy in the shirt pocket at 420 yards, with a K4 on a 6mm Remington. When you shoot Bambi, it's "Bang...Whop"; that day it was "Whop...Bang". Which finally made me understand what guys were talking about in WW II: They'd hear the little "pop" of a bullet going by--if the sniper missed--and listen for the muzzle blast to locate the shooter.

Rob01: were you using iron sights on your M16A2?

On my Colt Sporter, the front post sight is about the same size as a human sillouette target at 150 yds or so...

0 Yards--Bayonet

Knife bayonet on a Garand. Or skip that and just use a good sharp box knife. Start by removing the soles of his feet. Force him to walk around on raw bone for a little while, then work slowly, very *very* slowly, the rest of the way up.

An enemy soldier deserves a quick death, but this guy doesn't.
